help.
I've got my new wireless router today. Spent over 2 hours trying to set it up (j's had a long nap!) it's still not working.
I can see the wireless thing on the wireless network connection panel in control panels (and several for my neighbours too). I can connect to it, but can't keep the connection or get on the internet through it (i'm back on the wired version now!)
Bloke on the end of the phone at my ISP says I need to reinstall the network driver. How? I've found it online, but don't know if I can trust the websites.
isn't the network driver on a disk that came with either the comp or the wireless router? _________________ "If we reduce the amount of stuff we allow to accumulate in our lives, we won't have to organise it"

Aqui, I copied and pasted your question in an email to my DH and this is what he has just sent back:
Nothing wrong with your drivers - if you can see your neighbours wireless networks its definitely the router.
The normal selection on wireless routers is either "wireless off" or "manual association" either way it's not default automatic acceptance of new wireless devices.
BT routers have a wireless association button on the back of the routers to sync the laptop to the router. not sure about others.
The router configuration for wireless is a bit tricky and rather complicated to describe, especially in an email.
Thanks Jacky. I have very little understanding of what that means! The ISP "help" person did tell me to press a button on the back of the router, although he didn't tell me what it did.
It makes sense to me that it is something wrong with our computer as we have intermitent problems with it losing the ethernet connection. We have had this with 2 different modems and 2 different ethernet cables.
The help line also told me to connect the router direct to the laptop (through one of the network connections out of the back of the router rather than the connection in which I connect to the modem) and told me to go to http://www.routerlogin.com/byconfig.htm After I'd typed in the stuff he told me to and hit submit I got a blank page.
Trouble is they don't really tell me what's going on. They just blame it on something else and I'm fed up.
It was so much easier when I was at work and had an IT department that sort of knew what they were doing and did it for you! _________________ Aqui, T and Baby Jack!
