I am going to start a new thread here because I feel this is such an important issue it is a shame to lose it in the potting shed.

I have done extensive research into this area as a result of the Living Memorials I have done within my business.

Cremation is not environmentally sound........read here....

The Co-op Funeral Service, which has a vast monopoly of the funeral business carried out a detailed nationwide research project , where people's experiences of death and associated experiences were measured. See here...

It is very interesting to say the least...in some parts alarming. One person describes where, during their mother's funeral in the creamatorium, an usher twice interupted the service and told them their allocated time slot was over! Even though it was the last funeral of the day and nobody was waiting!

A shame they don't have any pic, there are some trees in one area that have been in for a couple of years, and so on.

My FIL wanted to be delivered by transit van, in a cardboard box! That was his kind of sense of humour. However, his mother was slightly culture-shocked by the whole thing anyway, so he had a proper hearse and wicker basket instead.

I have to say I find normal cemeteries to be very depressing places: just lawns with rows and rows of similar plain unliving markers... These green burial places are lovely, relaxing, peaceful, and alive! And if someone is going to make a regular pilgrimage to a particular place in order to feel like they're not forgetting someone, at least a walk through woodland is good for their health as well!

I kind of wish my mum had heard of these burials: she always wanted some woodland. But I guess she might still have chosen what she did.

My MIL wants to be buried in her wardrobe to save on funeral costs!!! She has even stepped inside to make sure she fits inside!!! Not really sure if that's feasible. Personally I would like a woodland burial...basketwork coffin....no hymns or religious words...just friends and family....and a big party for them all afterwards

I'm definitely going to have one (but hopefully not for another 70 years!)

I want a cardboard box or woollen shroud (aparently they are available!) I will not be embalmed (most of the places will not accept you if you are anyway) and I want all my clothes to go to the charity shop - so I will go out the way I came in!

And I'd like to feed an oak tree.

I don't want people to wear black or their bestest suit.

I don't want flowers (I'd rather have donations to charity).

Nothing religious (unless it's pagan!)

Really must write a will I suppose. Mr Aqui knows all this, though.

But again, I will happily wait 70 years for this!
