I don't usually buy books like this but after a flick through I was well impressed by some of the recipies Jamie Oliver has in this book. The other reason I bought it is the very simple instructions and picture steps, which I think would be good for T (who loves cooking).
There are alot of meat recipies in here but also some twists to good old favourites plus a couple of new ones that I quite fancy having a go at
T loves cauliflower cheese and macaroni cheese, Jamie has combined the two to make Macaroni Cauliflower Cheese Bake looks really lovely. Another one that caught my eye was Mini Shell Pasta with Creamy Smoked Bacon and Pea Sauce.
Currently this book is on sale in Sainsburys for £12.99 This is a fabulous book for those who have just left home, or need a good basic recipe book the 14 chapters cover

The series is really bugging me though. Why can people spend £10 on take aways but not be able to afford to buy food? Just how much does a filled baked potato cost?

And the lady who was feeding her child kebabs on the floor also seems to have a fag in her hand at every opportunity...
However, the pride that the people on the programme are finding in themselves when they produce a proper meal is truly inspiring and they will eventually find that real food is cheaper than takeaways, and be even more pleased. Anything that gets people cooking, especially for their children, can only be good.
I do wish Mr. Oliver didn't feel the need to swear all the time though ... _________________ When I married Mr. Right, I didn't realise his first name was Always ...
Problem is that cooking isn,t taught in schools properly, and lots of parents don,t have the time to teach their children.
When I was in school, we started with the basics, the creaming method, the rubbing in method, how to make sauses etc.For my DS O,level. i made tomato soup, bread rolls, roast rolled breast of lamb with veg, and chocolate pud.
My boys had to design a sandwich, make a pizza, taking in a ready made base, and they made a fruit salad.
Luckily they both love food, and have always helped me at home.At 22 and 24, they are very good cooks.
