Evil or Very Mad

Totally ridiculous Sell By Dates also some "Use By" dates recently I got my mit's on a pack of dried wild mushrooms in the Co-Op reduced from something like £4:99 to 50p... so I grabbed 'em  Laughing

They couldnt sell them to me when i got to the till  Evil or Very Mad 1 day "Out of Use By" I mean for god's sake dried mushrooms they'll last years!!! I've had the same with Pasta before as well! I know there is guidelines for food safety etc but I think it is rather extreme in some cases!

Yesterday for instance in Morrisons... I got these 75p (where £3:99)
"Sell By" 1st of Aug I mean what a joke! (guess I got a bargain though  Wink )

What a waste of good stuff it's tragic what some of these shops throw away just because of EU guidlines !

My motto is if it looks OK and smells OK then it is OK.  Only things I won't risk this type of test with is shellfish after having been horrendously ill with food poisoning from some many years ago.

Next door were throwing out some stuff from their food cupboard the other day and there was a fray bentos steak pie....best before 2003. Karl reckoned it tasted yummy!!!!! Laughing  Laughing
It is mostly a terrible waste though....normally double cream is better for butter making when it's a bit staler! Very Happy

Freeganism is becoming more popular, not surprised, I've seen some of the stuff that gets thrown away. Here is an article from the Daily Record:

And the Freegans website http://freegan.org.uk/index.php

I had never heard of 'Freegans' very interesting!

The private school kitchens that K works at throws out an enormous amount of food, apparently the goveners where asked about donating to the homeless and less well off but they refused becuase parents had paid fees for the food??????????????????????????????????????????
