Half way through the month already!!
I have a car great excitement, the only problem is when I go out i spend money I don't have
Anyway going to see if the hairdresser can fit me in today, physio later

It's rotten weather here today - foggy and damp and still and mild. Yuk! We have a big meeting at work today about the future of the company. At least one of the trouble-makers is here, so that should make for an *interesting* day I'll be sooooo glad when I can leave the place behind me. I might have mentioned that before
I've been looking after a friend's hens this week and I really think I might have to think of a way that I can have 2 or 3 at home - they're just so lovely to chat to and make such a calming noise when they're pottering about. Problem is, the landlord's not overly keen (although I'm sure he wouldn't object) and we have a hell of a rat problem. I'll have to get my thinking cap on....

Been reading but not posting much at all as my laptop is just sooooooooooo slow the last week or so i really can't be bothered with it, just too frustrating. Smoke signals would be quicker roll:
grey up here and rather subdued....still feeling grotty, in fact this morning i felt worse than all of yesterday but i have taken paracetomol today which makes you feel better....mr nanny is still struggling and he has hurt his back as well so we really are a couple of old crocks...groom still off sick...
still the work has to go on and we had to deliver a horse today and collect one coming back.... gypsy the one that got herself cast in a ditch has gone out and bluff, age about 26 and 16 something hands high has come back....we have put him out in the field but i have to say,he really looks his age...he has been a 3 day eventer and competition horse so has had a hard life...we will keep a close eye on him for the next few days and will move him to another field if he needs extra feeding...
the good news is that another loan home that recently had Ivy as companion for their elderly horse would like another one so next thursday Star will go out to them....

Lizzie, I'm sure there are ways to rat and fox proof a hen run. I've got an electric fence around mine and the roosting perches in the old hen house go right up to the ceiling starting a few feet of the floor. I also let the dogs wee around the perimeter, that's supposed to be a fox deterrent. Everyone should have hens!
Ozzie was at the vets yesterday, his coordination is getting worse and he had to be held upright to wee the other day but not so bad this morning. Diagnosis....some sort of motor neuron problem is most likely as it has been progressive and he's always had a bit of a problem with his back legs. He had a steroid injection, if that helps then it's muscular skeletal problem, if not, a brain problem. It's just a case of caring for him until his quality of live means "doing the deed."
I made a tea cosy, took a photo but have mislaid the cable. Will upload a pic when it resurfaces! It only took about 15mns, a bit of cloth, a bit of wadding and a bit of backing. Stitch the lot up and bobs yer uncle.
Better go and check the fires, everyone's gone to bed now, except me!
definately yes to the chooks Lizzie, although we had a rat problem too and we used to have an eglu!!! Clever sods tunnelled there way in and nicked the eggs!!!

I've suggested that but it would be like trying to put out a house fire with a watering can - there are quite literally *hundreds* of rats around (we live on a cat-free farm). The lads on the farm poison and shoot them, and also gas them if they find a sizeable burrow, but they just come back. There's a squashed one on the farm road at the moment that was the size of a rabbit I don't actually mind rats (even though the little blighters completely stripped our sweetcorn plants about a day before the cobs were ready ) but I don't particularly want to attract any more to the garden!
If we do get hens they'll be in an enclosure all the time, so I guess we could bury some industrial-strength chicken wire around it? It's have to be pretty deep though - they've already burrowed into the greenhouse...
