A new homeI've taken the decision to relocate the forum from Forumup to MyFreeForum. Those of you who are members at Downsizer may be aware that this is a forum hosting managed by Jema. Forumup downtime has become more regular recently. The downtime problems are reported very quickly by many admins from various .co.uk forums but they don't seem to be in any hurry to fix the problems and quite often it's a good few hours before we get a reply to our pleas for help. Today the problem was reported at 8am, so far there has been no reply from someone in the know about why the forum is down and when they think it will be fixed.
I've been considering a change for other reasons too. A lot of the phpbb features at forumup are disabled which makes managing, and ultimately moving the contents of the forum impossible. Unfortunately I won't be able to move threads and posts made at forumup to this forum as they have disabled the backup feature. I will try to copy across information that is worth keeping e.g. Becki's beaded bookmark instructions, recipes etc. But as this will be a case of copy and paste it will be time consuming and a little messy. If you feel any of your posts at forumup should be copied across here please do so yourself or let me know which post it is and I'll add it to my "to do" list. This forum hosting does have a backup service on request so should we ever need to move, which I hope we won't, then the forum can be backed up and downloaded in the new location. The forumup forum will still be online (when it works!) few a while longer so if any posts are needed we can refer back to them for copying over here.
So, make yourself at home, if someone finds the kettle in one of these boxes please unpack it and put it on!

yes Mike, everything works here, unlike the old place, was getting very frustrating trying to manage a forum where nothing worked!
Nice to see you all here. I will reply and welcome everyone and copy threads over when I get a chance, dashing off for the school run now. I'll be online tonight and try to get it looking like home again.

I was able to activate myself (!) which I never could before, and it is much quicker, so it's fine with me. I am sure everyone will find us soon enough, we are a resourceful lot after all.

I can't understand why so many of these systems seem to have so much down time
This system is not as top heavy with adverts as the others, but even without the significant sums of dosh I have been putting into powerful and hence more economic web servers it would be beginning to make money.
Hence there is no excuse other than insatable greed for not providing adaquate web servers You can also get quite cheap engineering back up in case you cannot be there to recover a probem yourself.
Quite funnily I intentionally zapped two of our now unused servers a few days back, so that they would not restart But very quickly they did in fact start running again as the data center engineers took it apon them selves to mend things
