Some of you might have read this on my website - here is a poem written by my deafblind penfriend Nell.
Allotment Lady.
In her all-weather clothes, with her all-weather smile
She seems at her happiest, working her plot;
Weeding, and planting and harvesting crops –
The only one up there, as likely as not.
Or maybe you'll find her at home in her kitchen
Preparing and freezing the food that she's grown.
Or transforming it into chutneys or sauces
Sometimes with recipes all of her own.
I listen with envy and wish that I had
Just a half of the energy that she expends.
Then I read her long letters describing her day
And count myself blessed to be one of her friends.

I was so touched when I received it.

It's lovely - I'd be touched too.

It's lovely, so personal.
Treasured I bet.

Such a wonderful 'gift' and so original. I think I might print it out and frame it.
