Are you the oddball of the family?Just testing a theory!
I am! Well actually gardening, knitting and cooking run in the family. But everyone else is very middleclass, into careers and "normal". There are certainly no other vegetarian pagans in the family!

Oh Yes!!!
They all think I am mad...."Why do you have so many cats dogs and Chickens?????
And "why is it that when we visit you are all in such a muddle?"
And, "how can you buy a piglet and then butcher it?"
But, hey, we are happy so who cares!!!!

bah - careers, who's got time for one of those?! my sister is the career one out of us - she has a PhD and has a posh job. I know my mum was upset when i gave up my career in journalism to do temping in admin. but which of her daughters was the happy one?- me! (of course mum's a lot happier now that I've given her her first grandchild - although I think she secretly wishes he was sired by a doctor, lawyer or something!)

actually no i am not the oddball of the family, my brother is far worse than i am ...............and he did all the self sufficiency stuff years before i got into it.....he has just gone from workingin a gov't run research establishment (big money) to studying to be a dog groomer and canine therapist....
not really any different to how i ended up
and he plays a mean irish folk fiddle as well
the rest of the family are either musical or into some sort of animal thing, it's only my mom who dispairs of me
"can't figure out why you don't just buy one."
"why don't you buy a house that doesn't need doing up?"
"why on earth don't you have carpets?"
tht sort of thing but then she was born in a time when they were all desperate to get better things and leave the nasty draughty houses with the stone floors and open fireplaces so i can understand where she is coming from really...she was bornin 1927 so the coal house programme is very close to the way her family lived and she was pleased to think she had done better than that

Yep, I'm the strange one!
My Father was a butcher and I regularly arrived home to find a dead pig on the table or walking into dead rabbits hanging in the bathroom. My being veggie really flummoxes him, I understand really and for me it's a case of each to their own! He also believes that when your dead that's it, progression of the soul is an alien concept. Oh yes, and he's racist too, (he was an Enoch Powell supporter) whereas I'll talk to anyone.....................

i did it the other way round, had a family, got married, divorced ( too many times to count ) then followed a career ( quailfied therapist, reiki master and a few other things, even got letters after me name, not that i use em....lol..)
i follow mum, psychic, pagan, clairvoyant, dont like rules and regulations, especially ones i consider silly, and dont really follow convention.....lol.....

I agree with Browneyes. My grandchildren (aged 15 and 19) think I am "a groovy Nana". I take that to mean that they laugh with me and not at me. I enjoy life to the full and dont mind laughing at life and I think they also follow my example. There is nothing like a good laugh to make the world go round and if kids take life too seriously then maybe it is because us as parents havent taught them to step back and take a good look at themselves and not take themselves too seriously. Life is for living and enjoying.

I am an only child, who abandoned an office job to work with horses in rural Wiltshire, and have ended up with a smallholding in rural Wales, making everything from scratch, doing lots of crafts, getting in touch with my psychic side, and never wanting to work indoors again!
