Arthritis

Any tips that you've heard of that helps post here please. As mentioned in the sticky, always seek professional advice regarding any illness. Smile

Aqui mentioned her Gran swearing by cherries.

I've already mentioned on a number of occasions how I was diagnosed with it and given a bleak prognosis. I no longer suffer (x-rays show no arthritis now) after following dietary advice, I never took tablets and don't take them now. I've also, for the most part cut caffeine out apart from the VERY occasional coffee (no black tea either).

According to many "experts" diet plays a huge  part in preventing, curing and managing arthritis. There's an article here that explains this and also gives recommendations as to what to avoid. It's quite long but well worth reading if you suffer from any arthritic condition.

Poor Karl has been diagnosed with severe degenerative osteoarthritis. The radiagrapher said when he went for the x-ray, that she had only seen one other person with hands as bad as his and this was a chap who fished in the arctic!!! Karl has done a lot of survival work in the Arctic....so therein lies the problem! Anyhoo......I read out the dietry guide from the link that Kathy put up.....won't say what Karl said!!!!....only that the first word began with F  Embarassed  Embarassed
Having read the guide they also mentioned Devils Claw, Knotgrass and Cod Liver oil.....does anyone know where I can get these? Holland and Barratt I'm sure will, but they are quite expensive are'nt they?....anywhere cheaper? Thanks!
Kathy

Yep, they said the same to me and I was horrified, poor Karl I do sympathise. I'm sure you should be able to get stuff cheaper online, I've used Bodykind for our seaweed tablets but don't know how they compare for the things you're looking for.
I can just imagine what he said about that article, bet his face was   Shocked  Shocked  Shocked

To be honest, for me, there was no hard decision to make. Change my whole lifestyle or suffer the consequences, (I was told wheelchair by my 50th).
Good luck with whatever route he takes to manage things, he seems to be quite a determined chap when he puts his mind to it.  Smile

My mother used to swear by a tablespoonof cider vinegar every morning, but I think it's a waste to let cider turn to vinegar, so take cider with ibuprofen instead! Laughing

Truly, my grandfather took a teaspoon of good quality cider vinegar in water every morning for years and he swore by it.  He lived very comfortably to the wonderful age of 97.

I have also heard good reports about Devils Claw.

I bought a book many years ago called 'A Diet for Life' after listening to the doctor on a radio programme.

You have to give up a lot of things you like - top of the list was tea and coffee - which is why I only drink water - and half a pint of goats milk a day Very Happy

devil's claw is very good for stiffness and arthritis...it is a herbal thing that you can buy in liquid form for animals (we give it to the horses and merlin when he is in pain) or for people you can buy it in tablet form

as a herbal medicine there are no nasty side effects like you would get with some of the more modern chemical based remedies

mr nanny used to take devil's claw a lot.....
