I have been diagnosed with severe arthritus in my left knee. I was wondering is anyone knew of any diet/herbal things that might help while I am waiting to see the surgeon. Mark has looked up some things but I thought I'd pick your brains too! I am already taking anti inflammertries for a indefinate time period.
Thanks

sorry to hear that Becki, afraid I can't help but I'd be interested to read what others have to say, OH's family have arthiritis and although he's not showing symptoms yet it would be nice to know of treatments/relief if it does show.

My mum drank cider vinegar (a small glass every morning). I wear a copper bangle with magnets in it. Seems to work for me, I notice as soon as I forget to put it on.

I was telling Lloyd about my grandfather who also drank cider vinegar every day and swore by it. Lloyd asked how he is now.......I replied "dead".
He did live until he was 97 bless him.

I recommend sex at least twice a day and standing in front of a warm oven for an hour a day

Sorry, the following isn't actually helpful, don't want to get your hopes up:
Becki, I suggest gentle resistance excercise, such as that provided by kicking mrutty in the behind
I've sent a friend of mine an email asking what he and his mum do about arthritis, though theirs is persistent but not chronic. My dad just eats Ibuprofen like sweets

We haven't had a chance to do much else other than unpack and acclimatise dogs/cats etc. I'm sure Greenlady will have some usful suggestions that DON'T involve sex and hot ovens....................

There is a book called Diet for Life - I am not sure if it is still available.
I followed its recommendations 30 years ago and found it really helped.
You cut out tea, coffee, anything with acid in it, like oranges, lemons, etc. Basically it is to have a healthy diet.
I wear a good quality bangle with reverse polarity strong magnets that you wear so that they are over your pulse points. I didn't use cider vingegar, so I can't comment on that, but I have heard that it is good.
I will try and hunt out the paper back book if you are interested.
Hope you find something that helps.
I still have arthritis, and apart from diet and antinflamatories (which I do not take as they upset my stomach), I have not really had anything that works 'miracles'.
But do remember, there are over 150 different sorts of arthritis, so different things work for different things.

Try Redbush tea becki, all the supermarkets sell it now. I don't drink black tea at all now (I have arthritis in my spine), there are LOADS of lovely teas out there you could try that are caffeine free.
Greenlady says she will login today and catch up with things, everythings still a bit hectic here at the mo, trying to get a pint into half pint pot!

eat no potatoes or tomatos for a while - see if things ease up. some people are affected by the nightshade group of plants (also including peppers, aubergine etc.)
its a hard task but OH discovered only certain types of these groups and particular ways of cooking them affected it.
it might only be that you need to always remove the skins of these
worth a shot

Perhaps you could see a reputable dietician who would no doubt recommend what is best to control your particular symtoms and arthritis.
I hope that you find a solution to help you, whichever path you take.
Best wishes

Ooh yes, good luck mrutty!
(Becki, I'd advise hitting him with a hammer *after* he's moved everything into the new house!)

Cherries.
My 91-y-o gran swears by them. Really help her joints.

Hi Becki, Sorry about the belated reply! Do you mind if I ask what sort of arthritis you were diagnosed with? as different types have different general approaches

Get a cat to sit on your knee and purr, as the frequency of vibration is one that stimulates repair, and it's nice and warm, which should be soothing.

The only times my cat has sat on has been when I'm pregnant.
That might be taking things a tad far........

Turmeric apparently has anti-inflammatory qualities, and "Curcumin", which is what makes Turmeric yellow, is supposedly prescribed for arthritis sometimes. However, it is not absorbed overly well, but this can be improved by accompanying it with pipperine, which is in black pepper.
So, try some Indian dishes, maybe.
