avoidance of sewing in ends?

Is there any way I can avoid having to sew in ends or at least make it easier?

I love doing multi-coloured things, but hate having all those ends to sew in.

If I'm using the same colour twice fairly close together, I don't cut the wool, but it's usually too far to drag it across and I don't what lots of washing lines of wool to get tangled up in.

ideas?

Depending on what you are knitting you can twist it along the back every 3 or 4 stitches, if that helps. It looks neet and saves lots of sewing in.

Or if you're changing colour at the end of a row, you can catch the end or the last colour into the first stitch at that end of the row for half a dozen rows or so then cut it off...

thanks both. JC's makes more sense, so I think I'll try that one. Sorry Alison!
