Bargains of the dayAt the local charity shop today the conversation went as follows:
"Och Kathy, thank goodness, ah wis hopin ye'd pop in. I've goat a black bag fu o knittin stuff, tak the lot an ye can hae it fer a poond".
My "poonds" worth consisted of copious amounts of various types of wool, lots of full balls, novelty yarns, full 500grm bag of cashcotton unopened, various oddments in a variety of colours.
A box of knitting pins, various sizes and materials, even wee mini plastic ones.
A HUGE bundle of patterns and a couple of books. More than half of the patterns are crochet and there's a very old crochet book (The Home Art Crochet Book) with those lovely old advertisements in it "Frys pure breakfast Cocoa, builds bonnie bairns", I can't find a date but I love it! The other book is "Puppet Making".
So, if anyone needs any oddments of coloured wool or a certain size of knitting needle for any purpose please let me know. Same goes for the crochet patterns, lots of things "for the home" and I'll never use them all. There are also a couple of Aran knitting booklets that I have already so just speak up if you want any.
Now, where can I put it all.....................................

Actually, maybe this should have been in the knitting etc section, but maybe if anyone else has had any "bargains" they can post it here?

That deserves to be a sticky type subject, Bargain of the week or something!
Can't do it here, we will have to wait for Boss Lady

Wow - what a bargain. And I'm glad to say I can translate the local accent!
Any baby wool or really soft stuff in vivid colours amongst that lot?
Gran's giving me all her old needles as she can't knit anymore, sadly (but she is 91 now and got carpal tunnel syndrone). As long as she can keep gardening, she'll be fine.
Now I want to go round our local charity shops!

Well... as there's no official bargain of the week thread yet, I'll post one here...
Sunday, local tip (sorry... household waste recycling centre), picked up Haynes manual for my Discovery (new-looking, no greasy finger prints!) and a home brewing pressure barrel for the princely sum of £2!

Let me know what you'd like in exchange...I can lend you a large but loveable lurcher if anyone wants their ears pierced

There was a skip at the lottie today and I managed to get lots of aluminium poles (the type that holds up fabric pergolas) a pair of shears (very handy for my new lawn! ) that hopefully the old man will clean and sharpen for me, an old co-op shopping basket (that was mine in the 1st place!!!!!!) and an old canopy. This looks a bit like the type that butchers have over their windows in the summer to shade the meat from the sun.....and it's red and white striped!!!!!
Now can anyone give me any ideas what I can use this canopy for??? It just seemed to good an item to leave and get dumped

Aqui, I've checked through my wool stash and the only soft baby wool is either white, cream or pale baby pink, no vivid colours at all.
You are welcome to some of the white if it would be of any use.

I bought a house and now the lady of the house has thrown in all the curtains for free
Means we don't have to run around on the first night trying to cover up like you normally do.

Got a phone call from friend today. "Can you use a sort of purply pinky bike, child size, it's new, just needs the tyres blown up".
Of course I said yes and asked where she got it. She assured me it wasn't "knocked off"! Her hubby went to take stuff to the recycling centre and is friendly with the chaps there, asked if he knew anyone could use the bike as it was a shame to just crush it. They don't have any children/grandchildren so immediately thought of E. It's a cracker, gears and allsorts on it (I'm not bike literate), why anyone would want to throw it away is a mystery to me. But I'm not complaining, thats E's birthday sorted!

Well, I think they are a bargain, but then I haven't been buying seeds for very long...
Packets of Sage, Basil, Chives, Lettuce, and Sweet Pea for 15p each, from a place called "Home Bargains". Very strange shop... Unfortunately, just inside the door they had Lindt Reindeers for 39p, and I couldn't resist
That's a double bad thing, because now I'll feel really mean when I eat it too. Why do they make chocolate into the shape of cute things?!

"The book people" online shop have "Grow Your Own Veg" book from the TV series for £4.99, and I also have a code for free postage regardless of order price (if anyone wants it, pm me, I think there are sometimes issues with putting them in public places).
Beats Amazon's price by quite a way.
Oh, and at the Harlow Carr open day I received a free watering can, and seeds for tomato, carrot, and spinach
