Having a think about this one Aqui, I've got a few old fashioned books I use, out of print now most of them. If you can get hold of it, "Food from your Garden" is a cracker. Gives all the growing, harvesting, preserving, recipes etc and is the one I use the most (I got mine from Ebay).

One book that i have that was published by HMSO is Home preservation of Fruit & Veg. It was first published in 1929 and has now been completely updated - you can get it on Amazon.Its mainly preserving but there is a chapter on storing. I have a couple of others but this is the one i always use..

Sounds really interesting. Does it offer insights that the others don't?.....Quite often the older ones are better, offering cheaper alternatives that are becoming more relevant again now.
Many a good tune played on an old fiddle and all that...............

Its just a basic no frills [no glossy pictures, a few linear drawings] on preserving that was published by the government. There's a what went wrong section.I suppose they were concerned with people keeling over with botulism - Hee Hee.. along with the revised section on blanching/freezing.
It covers just about everything Jams,Chutneys,Bottling,Drying,Herbs,sauces,vinegars.
There's also a section on competitions and the sale of preserves {WI}
Iv never felt the need to have any other book, though i do also have Marguerite Patten's book and between them i think iv got every recipe covered..
