bread making questionCan I use icing sugar instead of normal sugar in bread?
I've almost run out of sugar, but half one and a half packets of icing sugar that I'm not going to use, so could I use it instead?

I don't see why not, isn't icing sugar just really finely ground sugar? I think you'd need to use a little less though as it's finer.

JC - you just need a little - a tbsp or so per loaf - I think it's too feed the yeast to get that working.
Thanks Leonie - I'll give it a try tomorrow and see.

Of course you can, Aqui...use a little less though
The only thing is that white refined sugar does NOT feed the yeast! It simply provides sweetness and imparts more crust colour to the baked loaf.

I never use sugar Aqui, it's not needed (pardon the pun!). If I need a little sweetness, in a fruit bread for example I use honey.

I too never use sugar in bread, just flour, yeast water, salt. For a normal white loaf,
