Is that the right word? I have something stuck in my hand, could be glass but not sure, can't get it out and now it looks like it's going icky. I want to put something on it to try to draw whatever is in there out. Is there anything I can make using ingredients in the kitchen rather than go out to buy something at the pharmacy?

Do you have any calendula or st.johns wort? If you do then apply them to the area mashed up, and cover with a bandage. If not, garlic mashed up and applied over the area then covered with a large plaster should help to draw it out and will act as a anti-septic agent, refresh every day. Adding thyme (fresh or dried, in equal quantites to the garlic) to this garlic mash would be useful in helping to draw the slplinter and also, like garlic its anti-septic.

Ahhh, thanks, but I managed to get it out with a needle. Not sure what it was, perhaps glass but heavens know where that came from, or it might have been clear plastic. I've rubbed a little tea tree oil into the hole, feels so much better now that it's out. I didn't know garlic was an antiseptic.

I'm glad to hear you got rid of the splinter, they are pesky things!
garlics a really strong antiseptic, they are testing it against birdflu at the moment (we produce a concentrated form of garlic liquid at work) and its proving very effective. In the olden days, mums used to rub garlic on the feet of their babies if they had a chest infection as the volatile oil in garlic is espressed via the respiratory system, via the blood stream (it really works, we tried rubbing it onto our feet and 30 mins later we all had garlic breath!)

I have a book about garlic, "Garlic for Health" interesting little book. I'll look it out and start a new thread all about garlic!

i seem to recall that if you have a bee sting, you can make a paste of sodium bicarbonate, slap it on the sting and it will pull out the poison and the stinger

i think the garlic is a better idea as it is antiseptic as well

i shall remember this one

I think the bicarbonate is meant to neutralise the sting as well so it stops stinging quicker....must remember that as I'm sure bee stings are going to become common for me
