I just made my first n-recipe, ie made up by me!
I studied the sap values and realised that sunflower oil and olive oil have the same value so I swapped one for another and added green colouring, cosmetic clay and dried mint and some peppermint oil to (hopefully) make a soap which will be good for teenage skin and masculine enough to be acceptable to the young men in the house.
It smells amazing and is sort of sludge green with flakes of dried mint.

Let us know what it's like n. The only soap I made with green clay I was dissapointed with, it was the M Coss recipe but didn't give a good lather and went slimy very quickly. I like the idea of a minty smell, I made some foot cream using peppermint essential oil and it smells like peppermint icecream

Sounds good a masculine soap!! can you do one with a type of granule in that would scrub oil off but still be good for skin?

n I really admire how you experiment - I don't have the confidence.

Would love to see some photos too.

A soap swap (matchbox size piece ) was suggested.

Have we set a date yet - I may have missed it.

Just need to get a birthday pressie out of the way and then I am up for it.

Well, it's a variation on a melinda coss recipe, but using olive oil instead of corn oil, and different smell and mint added so I hope it isn't too slimy.
Do you think that lather in soap is like lather in washing up liquid in that we are conditioned to expect lots of bubbles when in fact the bubbles have nothing to do with the cleaning powers of the product? Hope the clay doesn't make it go slimy though. It may need to be a face soap only which doesn't sit near the shower and be wet all the time. Better look out for a soap dish which drains well so it will stay dry.

It cleaned okay n so I think you're right about the bubbles, we're conditioned to expecting them, I do like to see bubbles on a soap though. It might have been my lack of soap making skills at the time, it was one of the first ones I tried.

chickens, green clay is meant to be good at drawing out dirt and grime so is a good ingredient in soaps for hardworking hands, you can add pumice powder to the soap as well to give a scrubby soap.

I bought the clay from the soapmaking supplies place, I planned to use it for face packs as well as for soap.

You are really into this now aren't you. Do keep posting as it is so inspiring and I/we can come back to these threads any time we need to make presents.

Yikes - got to prettify the swap - banished to the garden shed!
