DK, 4-ply, 3-ply?

I have pulled out my wool stash again as I want to attempt to crochet a bag (like Kathy's!) but I have no idea whether most of it is DK, 4-ply etc. (Most of it is left overs from mum or bits and bobs I've bought in charity shops).

So how can I tell?

and does it matter if i mix the different thicknesses?
Kathy

Scroll to the bottom of this page to find out how thick your wool is.

Generally 2 strands of 4 ply, 4 strands of 2 ply will make a double knit and crochet up quicker too.  There can be slight differences depending on the brand but not enough to affect the finished article.  I've found the above article pretty useful for when Mr Kathy spins yarn.   Smile
