Does anyone know anything about

The Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery. They do a course on lampworking which I really want to try out. The trouble is the course I fancy is either in January, so I need to get my skates on, or November. Has any one tried this or is familiar with the establishment?
Kathy

I don't know much about this Jamanda but my sister has just started doing this and bought some equipment. She really enjoys it plus, she spends a fortune on beads and this way she knows the jewelery she makes will be "one offs". If it's something you really fancy doing you'll kick yourself if you have to wait till November so, hopefully someone on here might be able to give you feedback about this school. Smile

Sorry Jamanda, I don't know anything about them. Waiting 'till November is an awful long time to wait!
Jamanda

I won't wait until November. I thought I'd see if anyone here or on DS knew anything helpful, but if not I'll try and book on the January course anyway. Knowing my luck they'll be booked up and I'll have to go up country.

Kathy - Do you know where your sister bought her supplies from? I thought I wouldn't buy anything until I'd been on a course as there might be advice given.
Becki

Sorry, havn't a clue. Sad
Kathy

I'll check with her Jamanda, I know she buys a lot of stuff from Ebay. She made her purchases after doing a jewellery course at the local college so perhaps better to wait till you do yours. They should be able to give advice and might be able to recommend suppliers. Smile

Here is a picture (courtesy of Leonie doing all the hard work) of a necklace I made with some of the beads that I would like to learn to make.

That's lovely Very Happy Be very careful where you post your piccies............you won't have time to sleep again for all the commissions landing on your doormat!! Wink
Jamanda

I'd like to take commissions - at the moment I've just got me old Mum wanting matching ear-rings, (and she's given me a load of stuff to shorten or mend, while she thought about it Confused )
I'd like to work up being able to sell stuff. I guess I should make some pieces up and take photos. I made loads for Christmas presents, but took no photos. Then I should set up a website. Not sure how to do that. But I suppose I'll work it out.
Kathy

Lovely Jamanda and you'll get plenty of help and advice here for getting started in selling your own creations. Very Happy
Becki

I am going to ask, have you thought about selling them? I could get loads of birthday pressies out the way.........
Kathy

Spoke to my sister today, she is saving up for a kiln and these are some links for you Jamanda. I think the last one is a forum she uses, says its good (I've not had time to have a look)

Sister sent more info today:

Here's a link to Mango Beads, based in Barnstaple.

I've posted a request on the forum for any others, will email if there are. Let her know though that classes are a little few & far between, so to maybe expect to have to book fairly far in advance.

AND

Here's another!

She also explained that the forum had "problems" and disappeared, not sure if its up and running again yet.

Hope this helps. Smile

Bekki, I'm so sorry I missed this one! Yes! I would be interested in selling them! Though I'm not quite sure what I would charge, it would depend on the beads to a large extent. Let me know what kind of thing you'd be interested in.

Kathy - You are fantastic. I've emailed the lady in Barnstaple who does one to one taster sessions. Did you look at that website? The stuff is gorgeous! Say thank you to your sister for me.

Excellent - I've got beads to make up a cobalt blue one right now, but I've got to make my Mum some ear-rings first. I'll take photos of all of them.
Jamanda

I've booked a 2 hour taster session with the lady who runs Mango beads in Barnstaple. I'll be going on Sat 27th in the afternoon. I'm very excited about this. She sounds very nice and only 1/2 hour away! I've got a reading list, so need to go to the library to order books tomorrow. Hurrah! Thank you again Kathy and your sister!
Kathy

Oh brilliant Jamanda, let us know how you can on and take pics if possible. Smile

Kathy

How are you getting on with this Jamanda?
My sister finally managed to save enough for a kiln. She says it sat for 3 weeks as she was frightened to use and is just starting to get the hang of it now!
