It has separated, In the Melinda Cross book she says to discard it but I have found other sources on the web that say it can be saved! Most of the websites say you can boil the botched batch with extra water. Anyone "saved" separated soap before?

I know what it was now, (in hindsite) the palm oil I purchased from Asda this morning was actually a mix and had Canola in it too, so different saponification value.

Yes it did apear to reach trace, and looks wonderful! I'm going to fiddle around with it tomorrow. One website says 2/3 water to 1lb, Melinda's recipes are 2lb so I'll try that. I did think about doing it with goats milk (I've got plenty) but not sure how this would affect things.

I used goatsmilk and reboiled it as per instructions. It has gone a much darker colour and looks as if it might set. I'll know by the morning, if not I'll chuck it back in the pan 1 more time and give it a bit more cooking!

Its still pretty soft but there is no separation so I'll follow the advice in the Melinda Cross book and leave it. She says it mighten harden up given time, it's on top of the wardrobe now, I'll report back in a few weeks!

that sounds hopefull Kathy, the last batch of soap I made was very soft by comparison to what i'm used to and it hardened up well after a week or so.

from the few attempts i have made at soapmaking, it appears that the longer you can bear to leave it the better it gets

the stuff that we are using now bubbles a lot better than when i first started using it

the cure obviously is the thing
