Felted slippersI finally got round to having a go at seamless felting. I decided to make a small pair of slippers just to try it out and used E's foot as a template. You put the foot on a piece of calico and draw around it, this goes inside the slipper whilst felting so the 2 sides don't felt together. Well......I now have a pair of slippers, it didn't shrink as much as the book said!
It was quite fiddly to do and I think it would be easier to felt directly around the foot. There are a couple of thinnish bits where the fibres slipped but I can fix that by needle felting. They'll get another felted sole and a piece of leather (charity shop waistcoat, chopped up) stitched onto the bottom for durability.
They are still drying and need some finishing touches before I'll show them on here, but I'll post a piccie when they're done.

sounds interesting Kathy, can't wait to see the photos. I bet E is dissapointed they don't fit!

That sounds like an ancient craft - is there nothing you can't do? How about bungie ropes
Maybe the felt will shrink a bit more when they dry out further. But if not, they will fit 'e' before long - the rate littlies grow!
Looking forward to the photos too.

Felting my neighbour does that, I think it better be added to my 'to try list'!
Lottie, I'm getting worried about you, I seem to have followed you round the potting shed this morning and your getting more and more bizarre, are you sure your feeling alright????

Kathy, did you finish these and did you take photos? I've love to see them.

The first pair failed but I did finish another pair (learned a lot with the first pair!), just not got round to taking a photo! I was quite pleased with them, they are a perfect fit for E as I did the final shrinking with the slipper on her foot. I'll try and remember to take a photo after dinner.

I forgot to say, I bought a pair of polystyrene feet in E's shoe size to do some of the felting on as it would have been too long for her sitting getting her feet vigorously rubbed!! Once they were nearly the size of the foot form I put them on E's feet to finish.
Here they are, a bit bobbly as she's been wearing them a lot (you can shave them), and I would have liked them more colourful but she wanted them like snow! They have imitation leather (can't remember the name) stitched on for soles.

wow kathy those are fantastic! I'm not sure what I imagined them to look like, perhaps more home made type of look, but those look very professional, well done you
