Feral Cat

This feral cat is proving to be a clever little blighter! I reset the trap last night, using pilchards in tomato sauce, put quite a bit in too. I know he's around as he and tango having been having regular 'face offs'. I come down this morning and the pilchards have gone and the trap has'nt tripped  Confused  He or someone has cleverly stepped over the flap which trips the trap eaten the pilchards and left  Shocked
I shall have a fiddle today to see if I can make it more sensitive!!!!!!!!

feral cats are clever creatures...that's how they stay alive i guess....good luck
Kathy

Cheeky monkey!
Libby

I didn't set it last night as Tango refused to come in  Rolling Eyes  I think we must be in baby rabbit season, as this is when he goes for days.
Actually what I should have done was set it anyway and if he got trapped, he got trapped, he wouldn't go in again!!!

I'll keep you posted.
Daisy Bell

WHY DO YOU WANT TO CATCH HIM?
Libby

becuase he has cost me in excess of £500 in vets bills, and hopefully if I trap him and get him neutered he won't fight as much!! Well thats what happened to the last one!
Libby

At 5.30 this morning hubby came down to let the cats out, bearing in mind we locked them in last night, Sassy was sat inside the door and tango was outside on the patio, he had managed to open the locked cat flap (never get burmese they are too clever) and who was sat on the table? the feral cat, hardly ran off when hubby opened the door.

So I shall move the cage to the back for awhile  Confused

i laughed at that one libby

we had a cat that could do the cat flap when it was locked and she was just an ordinary moggy...she even learned how to move things out of the way of a locked cat flap if we tried to block their exit ...clever things
Libby

to clever for there own good really. Flippin nuisance as all I want to do is trap the blighter and get him 'done', then we can sleep relatively happily without the worry of expensive vets bills because of all the fighting  Rolling Eyes
Libby

Anyone got a gun this beeping Feral cat needs to be shot.

Tango refused to come in last night and when I came down this morning he was asleep on the kitchen chair, he never sleeps here unless he is injured and yes he is injured, looks like he has some eye lid damage, shoulder damage. For goodness sake he is 12 years old!!!!!

I am at the end of my tether with this feral cat, I haven't seen him myself for ages but I know he's around cos of the way tango acts and the smell!

Aargh!
Lizzie

Now I don't necessarily agree with this but I *think* I read somewhere that cats are classed as vermin (which is why you don't have to report it if you hit one with a car, like you do with dogs), and if that is the case, you could try ringing the council and ask the environmental health department to catch it.

Poor old Tango  Sad  - hope he's not too badly hurt.
Libby

I can try but I have had a trap set for 6 months now  Rolling Eyes  maybe the feral doesn't like pilchards  Laughing
Libby

another £38  Rolling Eyes  although I had to fight the vet to get my cat back as she thought he was a very hadsome chap  Laughing  They have also agreed to take the feral cat anytime including weekends  Laughing

could be the location of the trap

did you get any advice about it?

try tuna

never known a cat not go for tuna
Libby

I have moved it  Confused  I think he's a cunning blighter!

Theres a lady in the village who catches and tames the feral kittens then finds them new homes, which is all well and good, surely she would be better to trap the queens and get them neutered Rolling Eyes  I may have to go visit her.
What I'm not sure about is does she do it for money?? In which case I may have a problem but one I would hand over to the Cats Protection or RSPCA

quite often the local vet does it free, certainly they do farm cats round here like that....
Libby

I have an RSPCA voucher for neutering, I'm just having problems catching him!!!!!!

i don't know what more to suggest my dear....put a female in season in the trap perhaps?  as bait?  that's about the only thing left i reckon

I just seen this thread, awww what a hellish problem!

I totally totally am a cat person but in light of the situation a few things sprang to my mind.
Firstly trapping is hard with a feral tom they are seriously clever, if it hasent fallen for the trap now it won't in the future, only way is to shoot it  Sad . If he manages to be trapped in the cage most vets would asses the animal and to be honist they will put him down rather than neuter him, they wont allow him re released. Or another option if you trap him is to drive him well away from your area and VERY carefully release him  Very Happy
Libby

we live in a very rural area, I successfully trapped this ones dad about 2 years ago but obviously not before he had fathered the current one and had him neutered. The vets round here are very good.

When we had the last one neutered we had a long debate on whether to release him back into the locality, But decided we would as another tom  would come and replace him if we removed him!! I still see him occasionally.

If we ever trap this guy and I am not giving up, we will get him neutered and release him elsewhere, but don't tell anyone please??

Very Happy My OH loves cat's as well we have discussions most evenings and last night both said if it was us.... we'd re realise him but else where lol, I do hope you catch the little fella as it's all for his own welfare at the end of the day  Very Happy
