Fly Deterrent

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but here goes ... I'm sure I read somewhere of a herb that you could hang in the house which would deter flies. Despite the seemingly never ending supply of spiders around here, we're overrun with flies and I HATE THEM!!! Wretched things buzzing me in the face in the kitchen, flying around my head in the sitting room. AAAARGH!

Does anyone know what that herb might be? I did know once.... Laughing

Someone mentioned a ginger tree??????
nanny-now and forever

i believe that the rue plant used to be one that deters flies as does dill perhaps?

for spiders i think you put a horse chestmut in each corner of the room and that deters them

don't know why i know that.....

alternatively - leave the spiders to eat the flies for you! we have quite a lot of house spiders and hardly any fies!

A few drops of citronella in water - with some tea tree oil if you have it - spray it around the rooms or where you have flies.

Job done Wink

It works for chickens Wink

Citronella is the best plant I know, we always used it on the horses. I've got flypapers up at the moment and they work well.

Thanks for the replies everyone - I'll see if I can get some citronella on my way home (I've got some tea tree oil already).

We've got loads of spiders [shudder] but they're just not trying!
