Forum dinner partyWell it's about a year since we did this, and it wasn't exactly a raging success then, but those who took part had a ball, so anyone fancy setting this up again, say on a monthly basis?.....Last time, we basically all agreed a date each month, then took it in turns to decide the menu, (with options). On th enight, we cooked and ate, took lots of photos and posted them, then compared notes later once the hangovers had worn off. I recall a nettle soup, a rougout of lamb, and many other fun recipes, nothing too challenging, just fun and tasty.

not stoning the cream was it?
that well known victorian dessert
lloyd
That's the one!
nanny-now and forever
what does that do that whipping it doesn't
i have never really understood that one
ok so they didn't have a mixer in victorian times but there surely was an easier way
and one that would suit those that suffer from vertigo of course
lloyd

Best ask the Boss. As I recall, it was my suggestion, too, from a Keith Floyd Britain and Ireland Cookbook. This is why they built follies, surely, so they could climb up and stone the cream when they were bored with all that whipping.

why didn't they just use the shot tower do you suppose
all decent country houses would have had one of those and it would have whipped the cream nicely with a minimum of effort.......
lloyd
shot tower or hot shower?.....confused now.

shot tower
what they dropped the molton lead down to make lead shot
wouldn't want to put it through the hot shower
it would curdle of course
lloyd
And hurt too, at six thirty in the morning!!

They are brilliant.
Its was a dinner party thread.
Now its a comedy sketch.
All fairly normal for the Potting Shed
Leonie2
well it wasn't much of a dinner party with just three of us taking part this is much more fun
lloyd

Spose i should wait until the polls close, but it seems to be a yes. strange that out of a billion registered members, only half a dozen can bother their sorry "bottoms" to reply.
Okay, week after the vote finishes, everyone pm their favourite recipes to me, and I'll do another shorter poll of recipes, and then we can get organised.
Leonie2
ummmm, lloyd, only three of us voted to do the dinner party, I think that was you cabbage and me, is it worth organising with just three of us?
lloyd
Youre right as usual.
Okay will wait and see.
lloyd
Have you still got the photo's of the stoned cream?
Leonie2
I think this was it
and cabbage's broccoli pasta bake dish, it was very nice wouldn't mind cooking it again, do you still have the recipe cabbage?
lloyd
Cabbage is currently indesposed taking a medicinal glass of wine in my hammock out the back in the sunshine. i'll remind her to look for the recipe later.
I recall that the nettle soup was really to die for though. Will have to look out that recipe too!
This was the ragout of Lamb courtesy of Rick Stein:
