Fruit cake

Munt does'nt like christmas cake.....too much fruit and not enough cake!! Anyway, I've got some sour cherries, sweet cherries, cranberries and blueberries...all dried and I'm wondering what type of base cake I can use....was thinking madeira but has anyone got a better idea?
Was thinking of soaking the fruit in a little brandy to plump them up and also use some spice to give it a christmassy flavour!  Very Happy

I 'think' madeira would work as its a heavy sponge than victoria. all you can do is give it a go?

Or you could do a sponge tray bake if you are not icing it.  I have been making them quite a lot lately with all sorts of 'things' added and they've been a success - and freeze well too.
