Garden Plans 2009

Very Happy  Very Happy

I have never grown Broad Beans before so should be interesting. I need some aubergine seeds and apparently the 1st Early Potatoes should be going in soon Shocked  I don't have room for them so have potato sacks, which I can put in the greenhouse for now. I saved my heritage peas and  climbing french beans, so don't need those.

In the flower garden I have decided to plant for 'Bees' so the flower border is going to get a make over. The tropical jungle, will stay at the top by the patio but be downsized abit. I can still keep my brugmansias as the bees love these  Very Happy  if I had one of my neighbours gardens I would definately have a go at a hive at the bottom.

What are your plans?

That's a lovely selection of seeds.

I want to plant more for bees to. They do like a lot of the flowers that I have, though.

i have plans, but i need something to happen first!

Is it not still too early for potatoes Libby? Used to plant mine in March/April when I was down south. Had to be careful of the frosts even then. Up here we'll probably put our potatoes in in August!!!! Laughing  Laughing

I am going to have a go with stawberrys in pots this year, I have only a smll garden and the soil is awful, clay type,so I think gardening in pots is the answer Smile

My friend is just starting on a gardening venture so I went to Trago's yesterday and came home with 16 packet of bedding plants seeds so we are going to be very busy. She will need them for clients gardens hopefully and what's left over will go to the car boots.

I can't believe how good I have been.

The past couple of days I have listed all my seed packets and put them on a spreadsheet (you can tell the weather has been bad) and I was absolutely shocked at how many I have and the duplications I have - enough to supply the young couple who now have the bottom of my plot with all their veggie seeds I should think.

I keep mine in the fridge - so they last for years.

Bad news is that I ordered some more things off ebay - so have even more - but different varieties - but the seeds (they say) will be good for at least two years - so if I keep them in the fridge then they will last a lot longer.  I am trying out some different squashes and pumpkins.  I roast and freeze them and it is great to just go to the freezer and get out a ready made pack of mixed veggies - we hardly need to buy any in the winter.

Got all the seed potatoes - just need to get my finger out and put them in trays to chit.

We really need a dry February - so that we can get started on our plots don't we.

Oh I couldn't agree more Lottie!  It'll be March for us, but we were just talking the other day about taking a week off work to get the garden ready - we haven't even ordered the vegetable seeds yet...time marches on!

The main thing for me is the soil temperature has to be up to 7 degrees before I get going!  Very Happy

I was spoilt by my husband who gave me a greenhouse a year ago so I can get things on a roll but so far I have not started anything  Shocked

I also have a problem ... I'm going away first week in March and I do not want too many tender seedlings to apprear while I'm not here to look after them !  Confused

Is that standard to everyone then? Do you just stick a thermometer in the ground to measure it?

Sarah Raven starts her tomatoes on the 14th February, but that is way to early for me!!

This veg bed is going, it never has been a successful growing bed, so the red bit is being slabbed to hold the bar-b-que, the blue bit will be a herb bed and the green bit maybe a strawberry bed!

This is where we are moving the veg bed too, it will be an odd shape so we don't have to move the path!

and this will be a brand new bed, where the chickens used to be, again a slightly odd shape to allow for the path!

All this will occur (hopefully) week beginning April the 6th. Everyone has booked a weeks holiday. I shall do alot of preperation before hand provided everything with mum is ok! Lets hope for some decent weather, I shall have a word with my 'weather angel'! Very Happy

I started sorting out my garden yesterday, and as you all know its very small, but I moved the green house, its one of the plastic sort ! moved one of the rabbits, and made some more room.
I also planted lettuce in an Ikea bag, and leeks, broccoli and tomatoes in the greenhouse.  hopefully doing more today. I`m going out first thing though to get canes and netting to make some sort of fence to keep the dog off the garden, there was a foxglove coming up near the greenhouse, but not any more  Sad
Jojo

I bought some long bamboo canes today from wilkos, and a friend gave me some runner beans to set so i am going to have a go at growing them because they are my favorite veg Smile

I need to get more canes. I also made a sort of fence yesterday to keep the dog off the garden, its made from canes and netting, it`ll do for now, my garden is really small, I will try to take some photos later, of the bit I`ve done

Hiya sis.  You're very self sufficient madam.  It's lots cheaper than buying all that.  Wish my garden was big enough for a green house!!!!!
