Help, clay !!What do I do with one part of our allotment which seems to be pure clay ? can I cover it with topsoil ? or is there something else I can put with it to break it up .

pile loads manure( barrow to a square yard ) in it and then add a load sand from the builders supplies .£16 a ton deliverd to the site ( 1/2 barrow to the square yard ) . spread it all over the surface .and rotavate the lot in go over it for an afternoon in all directions so you mix it in well rake level and then plant spuds and cabbages etc on it ,.dont put any roots on it this year .......this will bring it ionto good production this year ,..

i am going to have the same problem i am afraid
fortunately there is enough muck here to last a lifetime
in fact we have so much that we are having ot pay someone to take the stuff away
that's a lot of poop

contact the council gren recycling dept and offer it to them to incorporate in the stuff they collect from households and put an add in the shops around town for all allotment holders to have it free on collection.my horsey pals do it here in the village and they dont have a pile left once they open then gates lollo
