Herbal remedies during pregnancy?

One of my books seems to suggest that Aloe Vera isn't safe to use during pregnancy? What else can I use that is safe? I managed to burn myself on the breadpan last night and have a lovely red mark on my arm now.

And what can I use for insect bites? All the antihystamines are out. I'm confused about lavendar oil (some say ok, others not). What about calendula? (I got a load dried to make nappy rash cream, can I use it on myself - not that I'm getting nappy rash!)

Sounds like you need expert advice - how about a herbalist's help?

Think we may have one or two in and out the shed - but not sure.

Ask your midwife.
Ask your pharmacist.
They are the experts and know far more than GP's.
The main thing to remember is that just because it's a herb, doesn't mean it's not a medicine, and also doesn't mean it won't interact with any conventional medicines you may need to take. St John's Wort is an example of a herb which can interact with drugs for heavy periods, for example.

If you got to a properly trained herbal practitioner they take into account any medication you might already be taking. My middle daughter (Greenlady) has just finished 5 yrs training as one and, not only did she have to learn "herbs" she also had to learn "conventional" medicine too, for the very reason that n stated. Better to be safe and seek expert advice, don't want anything happening to our Potting shed baby now, do we! Smile

the only oils i would recommend as safe for you to use are chamomile and lavender. Very gentle, you could have two or three drops in a warm bath.

Other than that, if you want todelve deeper, please seek out a good qualified herbalist/aromatherapist.

sorry i have no idea.
when i was pregnant i was told to either drink raspberry tea or take the capsules you get from the health shop.the idea being this is ment to make you have a quicker labour and help soften your pelvis.
i can not tell you if this worked cos i ended up having a emergancy c-section Rolling Eyes
