Highland cattle

Cattle Farming anyone doing it?
Recently we have been offered a herd of 12 Premium Highland cattle to grase our newly aquired 6.5  land here on the Gower.

We have had experiance with Cattle in the past but only recently a bad one from poorly kept Dexter Cattle we want to do this correctly or we will say NO to the offer any advice on Highlands?

one of my neighbours keeps highlands..in merthyr Vale..she has a herd of 9.....quite docile unless they have calves.........then you take your life in your hands...and both her and her husband go to them on the quads, never on foot......you think dexters are bad....... Shocked  Shocked

incidentally, did you report the poorly kept dexters?
i would have.
nanny-now and forever

i believe they are the most passive of cattle, dexters have small man syndrome and the highland frankly couldn't care less....

they sleep a lot i think

i never had any, mine was a white park crossed with a red poll

i think if i even was able to have cattle again, i would certainly consider highlands...

are you going to keep them down on the marshes?

Thanks for that advice nanny-now and forever  Very Happy unfortunatly not down on the marshes altho they are close (Penclawdd is our nearest salt marsh), aquireing grazeing land their is proveing very difficult at the moment but we're keeping our ears open  Very Happy the cattle have now been sold  Sad  but have looked into the breed and as you say they can be very passive cattle and a breed we will deffinatly look into further  Very Happy .
