Holidays

What kind do you like and what was your best ever?

In my late teens I went on a National Trust Acorn camp in North Wales. A group of us stayed in a very dilapidated old cottage, we slept on floorboards in sleeping bags, took turns on the cooking rota, sang around the camp fire and went to bed early.

If we wanted more than a quick sluice, the river was the place to go for hairwashing............I had a 70's blonde afro, took all day to dry Rolling Eyes

Every morning after a big breakfast we spent the day in the woods, clearing stream beds, coppicing etc. We would stop for a picnic lunch and work again all afternoon.

It was brilliant and I was fit in those days. Don't think I could wield a pickaxe like that now!

Not just thinking about childhood memories, but the enjoyable breaks in your life. What do you remember and why?

I only ever remember going on holiday twice as a child and that was to Anglesey in Wales. It was a farmhouse surrounded by lots of sheep and in the middle of nowhere but I loved it (my sisters hated it).
The other was girl guide camp when I was 12, one young chap quite took a fancy to me and kept following me about, gave me a bottle of lemonade and a box of maltesers! Laughing

The most memerable for me was 2 weeks in a camper with my mum and dad , absolutly no plans and a copy of the camping and caravaning directory.
We set of and ended up on the norfolk coast and I remember, york, whitby, sherwood forest, robin hoods bay although not imn that order or for how long in each place, and many more stops along the way that didnt survive the 18 years of memories in between.

m....Surely the honeymoon was the most memorable mate? Laughing Wink

Very hard to respond to this, I'e had so many holidays of different types over the years, working holidays in the Outer Hebrides (Rhum), long weekends on the family farm, work all day, shoot at dawn and dusk, drink home made wine by the fire each night, Greek Isand holidays for sheer R&R, a totally brilliant holiday with CP last summer in Snowdonia with Land Rover, bicycles and dogs....

All different, all memorable.

Im sure it will be but after paying for a wedding we are now saving for the honeymoon, expect to go for our 1st anniversary and want to go to Vegas but to do it right the first time we need to save up a bit first

We didn't have many holidays as a family when I was little. I remember school holidays during the summer, we didn't go away but always had a great time with our friends at home or at their homes. We did a few holidays, twice to the beach, and they were great fun. Very simple holidays where we made our own entertainment rather than being entertained by organised theme parks and such like. As a couple OH and I have been on quite a few holidays but the one I remember most fondly is our honeymoon. By comparison to our other holidays together it was a small simple holiday much closer to home than usual but for me it was the most enjoyable one. Very Happy

No problem, We could have gone straight away but thought it would be better to save up some more and do it right, go to the shows, the grand caynon ect ect as we are probably not going to do it again and as we have been together 10 years we thought we would be able to wait a year Laughing
