Home made yogurt.We make yogurt every couple of days, and usually save a couple of teaspoons as a starter for the next batch.Someone! ate the last bit last night, so I need to buy some live yogurt and start again.None of the shops in town have live yogurt in stock, could I use ordinery natural yogurt, or does it have to be live?

I always use live, I think thats what starts the process!

Use semi skimmed or goats milk and it's low in calories. It tastes better and you can add your own fruit, fresh or dried, no added sugar or any of that rubbish! I've not made it for ages as I'm pretty much dairy free now but its simple. I'll look out the instructions later.

Libby,We use an electric yogurt maker from Lakeland.It is very easy.
Put 2 spoons of live yogurt in the bottom of the flask, add one litre of UHT milk, and stir well.Leave overnight, and you have yogurt!If you add a little milk-powder,the yogurt is slightly thicker.
I don,t know about calorie values , but weall eat loads with fruit for breakfast, alsogood for dips, curries etc.
If you keep two spoons from your batch, you always have a starter for the next lot.

Managed to find a live sheeps milk yogurt today, so have got going again.

my mum used to make it - she says : boil up full fat milk and then add a little plain yoghurt to it, I think. Her instructions are too vague, so I wouldn't follow them! She had a special flask to put it in (non-electric) and we used to eat it with honey - mmmmm.

She was right.
Add the yog starter to the milk once it has cooled to about blood temp, put in the flask then leave overnight.
