hospital

Just spent 8 hours in the hospital. Had to get the doctor to call an ambulance for MIL. Poor old girl....totally confused...had'nt really eaten anything or drunk much for that matter. (she had been making tea in the kettle a few days before Sad ) Turns out she has a blood sugar level of 31...which I think is high. They are keeping her in hospital until they can get her diabetes under control. I don't know much about diabetes but they were a bit concerned at the hospital that no-one had bothered to take sugar readings.... the thought had'nt occured to me Embarassed

Damn...did you leave her there and just get home?..You mustbe wiped out. Look after yourself now, in order that you can look after her.Aggie, go to bed!!!! Shocked
Becki

Oh, try and get some rest, and I hope she has improved today.
Leonie2

Agapanthus 31 is very high and if it's been high like that for a few days then it's not a good thing. Get some rest, I hope your MIL is feeling better soon. Smile
Lizzie

Oh dear - poor her and poor you.

The people at the hospital will know what to do, so try not to worry too much. I hope she's feeling better today.
TheGirlsMum

Dont bang yourself up about it, she's in the right place now and you know what to look for now.

Lloyd am totally knackered.....and have granddaughter staying with us for the week....but she was as good as gold in the hospital...helping doctor out looking after the little ones:)
It was really sad.....she had lost so much weight.....which was even more obvious when they hoiked her onto the commode and her gown fell off. She looked as though she had just come out of Belsen Camp Sad She wears a lot of clothes...obviously to try and cover up this fact, but it was truly shocking Sad
Goodness knows what is going to happen when she gets back home. She obviously can't administer her own medication (I found some on the floor) and according to her gp she really needs to be injected daily rather than having tablets.....which were of a low dosage in case she inadvertantly overdosed herself. I'm also going away next week for a bit of respite and I know I shall be worrying about this all the time I'm away.
Oh well, we'll just have to take it one day at a time.
Libby

Golly again!

Thats a shock, must be quite scary too? As much as we try to be superwomen/men it is so difficult to get round the world in one day!!

Take care and as 'the girls mum' says don't beat yourself up about it!

{{{hugs}}}
Kathy

Oh dear, hugs from Scotland Agapanthus, you are doing your best for her.
agapanthus

Thank you all for your thoughts Smile x

why not ask the gp what care is available from social services for the period when you are having your break?...There may be district nurse services for the injections, for example, or meals on wheels....
nanny-now and forever

hope it all goes well for your mil aggie

i am sure they will sort her out somehow and indeed there may be some social services help available if you ask.......
agapanthus

Have been trying to get meals on wheels for over 2 weeks now...she's supposedly on urgent priority....but as usual that takes time Sad I have told the hospital that I'm on respite next week and have also said that they will need to put some plan in place.
