How do you..........dry your washing, in this wet weather
a)without using a tumbler?
b) without having it draped around everywhere for days just trying to dry the thick bits?
All mine has a long spin then gets put on airers in the bathroom, and there it will stay for about 3+ days in damp weather like this, which means I am only doing 2 washes a week which is good for the enviroment, but the wash basket is overflowing

I put mine straight from the washer into the airing cupboard - if the fire's lit (which is it most nights) it only takes a day and a half to dry a pair of jeans like that and most things are quicker. Our house is so damp already that I daren't leave wet washing hanging around making it damper...

I have 3 airers in the spare bedroom. I can fit 1.5-2 loads on them. It takes at least 2 days to get things dry, though, so the washing starts piling up. And I need to wash J's nappies every other day.
One of my neighbours dries their washing in their greenhouse (although the don't have any plants in it). People who lived here before us dried it in the loft - there's a line up there. I can't get up the ladder with a washing basket, though.

I have 3 airers in the conservatory, even on rainy days it only takes the day or at worst 24 hours to dry, ready for the next lot the next day. I put T-shirts, Jeans, sweatshirts, towels etc over 2 or 3 rungs which allows it to dry much quicker.
Could you not put the airers in the green house?

I have never had a tumble drier - we used to drape stuff over the radiators, and now have some of those one bar airers from Argos which hook over the radiator and away from it, which the girls use at Uni for drying their stuff. In the kitchen we have two Betty Maid (Victorian style) airers which are suspended from the beams, one in front of the Hergom (big Aga like stove) and the other on the far side of the kitchen. The dampest stuff goes nearest the Hergom, the drier on the other Betty Maid. I swear by them and would never be without. GTM over on CL, used to have hers at the top of the stairs, to get all the warm air going up through the house. We have various big old copper pans on the Hergom and we drape "sickers and knocks" over them to dry. Ditto wet jackets and in winter, wet rugs too!

We have an airer like that BB, but nowhere in our tiny single storey house to hang it other than the sitting room, which we don't really want to do! It's a b*gger because it used to be so useful in our previous house...

Our tumble dryer broke a few months back and I'm not replacing it. The family now think ahead with their washing. We use a betty maid in the kitchen, and clothes airers, which get put in whatever room is the warmest depending on what fires are lit. I wouldn't put washing in the bathroom though, always takes an age to dry in there.
I don't really think there's any way not to have wet washing hanging around during wet weather, it's more a case of finding the warmest spots to get it dry. 
I'm keeping an eye out for a mangle by the way, much better than a spin dryer.

My Nana had a mangle and it was my job to turn the handle if we where staying!!  happy days.
I only have the bathroon to attempt to dry my washing, my front door opens into the lounge, the lounge is only 13ft wide with a settee at one side so makes it about 10ft wide, walk through to the kitchen and the same thing 13ft with units either side 
K has the warmest room but also the tiniest, T has a bigger room but loads more 'STUFF & CLUTTER'. We at the top of the house have the biggest room but it is currently full with all the boxed up Uni stuff
I have threatened to light the front fire but I try not too becuase my carbon footprint for the house on just the heating is already enormous

i am afraid i use the drier though i only do about 3 loads a week
in the winter when the wood burner is going i hang a lot of stuff on the betty maid that hangs over that adn i do use radiators as well to avoid the drier but when the rain is really bad and we are outside all day shovelling heaven knows what or moving a herd from field to field i give in
the dehumidifier gets rid of the worst of the damp in the house but i really don't want to add any more.....

With some of the wood that we've scrounged from the builders I got Munty to make me a clothes horse. Bless him, he did'nt know what one was!!! Am drying everything around the fire....it's a real pain!!!

I gave in and lit the front fire yesterday afternoon it was flippin damp and cold! So I will keep it in for the time being as the weather forecast is still awful and bring the airers into the lounge, overnight, hopefully the washing should dry! Do that for a couple of days and I think we will have caught up!
