nanny

hunting hounds

i don't have anything against hunting, i really don't care if you want to ride to the hounds

what does make me angry is the hounds running across our fields, without our permission, upsetting our horses including the blind mare and working my greyhounds up into such a frenzy that i had to collar and lead them into the house and shut my dogs away just in case they got through the fence and did a runner to be with the hunting hounds...

had they done that i would never have got them back, they would have taken out a farmers sheep and been shot

i was not a happy woman this morning i can tell you

i work very hard to keep my dogs under control and in my property

it is a great shame that the hunt cannot control their hounds

a snottogram is going to the hunt when we can find out which one it was

I feel the same Nanny and from what I've read there are hunts that care and hunts that don't, looks like you got the "dont's" today. Aren't you supposed to be informed when there's a hunt on?

I used to work in Hunt Kennels and have hunted, sometimes riding, sometimes as a foot follower for many years. If they are laying a drag across land, it is one thing - obviously such a thing cannot be done without permission. In the old days, if hunting a fox, you cannot predict in which direction it is going to run, and a meet might start off miles from your property, but during the course of the day proceed so that it crosses your property. If they have started off on a drag and hounds have picked up the line of a fox en route, there's no knowing which area they will end up in. I think this is part of the problem Nanny. Have a word with the Master (would it have been the Llandeilo Hunt?) and say that in future, you need to be told if there is a meet anywhere near you so you can take precautions.

Surely you can insist that they don't cross your land? I know I would, given the chance...

I know a horsey ex friend used to know which day the hunts rode and just kept her horses and dogs inside that day having excercised them early!!

I know you don't want to, but surely the same rule applies the the hounds worrying your horses, as it would to your dogs worrying sheep? Tell the hunt you'll shoot them!

It's quite possible that in the past there was an unspoken understanding that they could cross the Trust's land Nanny? Best to say that in future, their understanding should be that access is denied.

As for which hunt - the Brecon & Talybont Hunt hunt on Wednesdays and Saturdays; Llandeilo Farmers and Carmarthenshire Hunts hunt on Tuesdays and Saturdays, if that helps. Doubt you'll find a website though, because of the anti's. The Carmarthen Journal used to carry a list of meets, but that may not happen any more, for the same reason . . .
