I need a rant...

You don't need to read this, I just need to rant....

Several things are annoying me today....

I am so sick of cleaning and decorating. When T's here i spend all my time cleaning, until J wants me, then T has to leave the room as he's too much of a distraction. It feels like we've hardly seen each other lately.

I am sick of the smell of paint. I have gloss paint that will not come out of my hands and I have more grey hairs than when I started (although again, that's the gloss paint).

Our mortgage adviser (who is a friend of my parents) has annoyed me too as initially he said my passport would be fine as ID with marriage certificate as it's in my maiden name. Then he said it would probably be ok, but the lender might turn us down. Now he's saying I need to get it changed. If he'd said that at the beginning, we'd be on a lower rate now as I would've had time to get it sorted, but now we have to wait another month or hwever long.

I am currently painting the grouting in the bathroom as it just will not come clean. How ridiculous is that?

And I got some quotes for cleaning the hall carpet (to get the paint out of it, from previous decorating) - they say they cannot guarantee that the paint will come out, so we'd pay them and then have to clean it ourselves. So sod it.

I have no idea how much we might be offered for our house, considering the current climate which is entirely fabricated anyway. And therefore I don't know how much we can offer or what might be accepted. Part of me thinks we should just wait until the market settles. But who knows how long  that'll take. We could still be living here when J leaves home.

And then there's thoughts of being stuck here with an energetic toddler running about the place. Then garden is just not big enough for the two of us.

We're so close to finishing the pre-putting-on-the-market spruce up, but every step we get closer, we seem to move two further away as I find something else we need to do. I just do not think anyone will want this place: the decoration is really tatty and the colours are all bright/dark - all the colours they say you shouldn't have when selling, the flat is damp (although I'm cleaning off and painting the evidence of this), and I just hate it right now.

It does wear you down, but whatever you do you can't make a place absolutely perfect to sell.  Someone is always going to come along and whilst they might say, oh I don't like that purple you have in there, there are others that will say gosh, I don't do magnolia - first thing we'd do is to paint it a different colour.

The housing market is in an odd state at the moment, but as "they" insist that prices are falling, perhaps a good idea to put it on the market and see if you attract any buyers, and then at least you will be making an effort.  Folks may come along and put in a much lower offer, but then that's normally a base from which you work up, and it also gives you the same bargaining ploy when YOU go house-hunting.

You don't know until you try do you?  I would hire a carpet cleaner and do the job yourself if no guarantees about the paint.  We have an absolutely wonderful house, on the whole, but if you saw it when it was raining yesterday, with blocked guttering causing the water to spew down the walls as there was nowhere else for it to go (and no way can we reach one lot of guttering, it was a scaffold job to put it up there) you will know that no place is perfect.  Give a couple of estate agents a call and see what they reckon.   ((((HUGS))))
nanny-now and forever

i agree with bovey.......you can't please all of the people all of the time...

apparently to sell your house you have to de-personalise, take everything of yourself away so tha tpeople can envisage their own stuff ....we couldn't do all that so we just painted every room in the house and wiated to see what would happen

it was a horrible time and i hated every moment of it

some people shouldn't even have bothered to have a look as they were clearly not looking for a house like mine

i really feel for you acqui and wish you all the luck in the world

but you won't know unless you try and you dont' want to end up saying "what if"
Kathy

I've never been in your position Aqui, but I can send (((((((HUGS)))))).

We only completed one room and then decided to slow down just like the market here.... there are soooooo many houses up for sale at the moment here that we are taking just one step at a time. You are right though you just complete one job and find hundreds of others.

You'll get there when the time is right for you.
Take an extra 5 minute sit down and deep breaths.
Take care.

Why can't he play with both of you together?

Thats all to do with being a parent and trying to get everything done Rolling Eyes

It might be worth getting a second opinion?

You can buy grout whitening stuff, best not gloss it if you can help it!

What about a rug to cover it up?

There is never a right time to sell!

There will always be something else to do, it is impossible to do it all, just take the advice of the estate agent, they know what sells, they want you to sell so they can get there commision!
It will be worth it in the end, just look to the long term and try and toughen up abit, there is far worse to come when J starts playgroup and school!! Very Happy

I wonder how you know we have a purple room! (and a blue room, yellow room and green room. We hadn't got around to doing the red room yet!)

yes true - reminds me that the previous owners next door spent ages tarting their place up. New people come in and rip everything out!

we've moved most of our stuff into the loft now, so we're very decluttered. J's toys will be neatly put away in the toy box and not all over the living room floor!

when he's playing he plays with T at the weekend while I get on with stuff. When he wants me he wants mummy milk and if T's in the room J will always be looking at him to pull stupid faces or something to entertain him!

I looked at the stuff but it's so expensive for one tube and it doesn't go very far, so we'd need a lot of tubes.

it's on the stairs unfortunately.

Thanks for all the support everyone. I feel a lot better about it today. Felt like I managed to get a lot done yesterday in the end. We'll get there.
