I probably should have cropped that. There's a small amount of cat around the edge, it was quite hard to get him out of the way! He's so nosy about what I'm doing 
These were wedding invitations. I think it's a really good effect, and not as complicated as it looks. Mine was a scaled down version of this: 
You then need strips of a few different types of paper, about 1.5cm wide, which you make a fold along to give a 1cm strip with a nice edge (if you have a larger pattern, the strips need to be wider, but they only need to be small to conserve paper and make the thing not too bulky). Put glue (some pritt-stick type thing) around the triangle with no. 1 in, and place your first strip face down, with the folded edge up agains the innermost line of that triangle (the template has to be either the same size, or larger than the hole in your card). Take a different coloured strip, and do the same with no. 2. On my pattern, after you have done the first 5, you now have a new pentagon to start again with. Make sure now that you use the strips in the same order, so as to end up with the spirals of each type of paper. Stick a bit of your favourite colour in the centre, when it gets too fiddly and annoying to continue! Wish I had a picture of the back view to show, as that clarifies it a little.
