Jerusalem Artichokes

I have started growing them in the garden as it is about the only thing the birds won't eat. Last year a colony of house sparrows saw fit to eat my runner bean flowers and so I decided artichokes would at least give me something to look at and enjoy to eat. My problem is that my Jack Russel terrier has developed a taste for them and grazes them Like a sheep. Worst still she has encouraged my cocker spaniel puppy to follow suit. Any ideas as to what the attraction in the leaves may be to a dog ???

Sorry I missed this post Ratman.
My dogs will eat any raw veg, I suppose it's how they would supplement a carnivorous diet in the wilds. I don't let them in the veg garden!

I have the same problem. That is the reason we stopped growing vegetables, which is a shame. Though we have attempted to grow a little each year. He takes the tomatoes from the bushes! But originally he loved carrots!

I thought they wouldn't touch artichokes, wrong lol.
