kneeAfter having a replacement knee at the beginning of April, I can now see light at the end of the tunnel. I went to physio today and I have a 95 degree bend which is 10 degrees up on when I went a ouple of weeks ago. I am now itching to get back to work, as I am fed up with being bored at home, becaue there's things that I can't do. Can't see the consultant until 20th May, and that makes 7 weeks. Boohoo.

Has it made a huge difference then? Less pain etc?

Less pain etc? | Well not at the moment as it was only 4 weeks ago, and I am not at work and can't do things like hoover and gardening, and most of all Line dancing, so I am a bit bored, but hopefully it will have made a difference and I can get on with doing the things I love. Generally the only pain that I have is from the scar which is about a foot long. The joint itself aches from time to time and I find my leg is very RESTLESS if I am just sitting watching telly or something like that. I am told this will improve, which I can't wait for. I think, at this moment in time, that I am glad I had it done.

one of mine is fairly shot to bits. | Hi nanny. I had Arthritis in the patella. I had an Arthroscopy a few years ago (camera in and a hoover out), but that didn't do anything, so as it was stopping me from doing the things I love, I eventually said I would have it done. I think I will be pleased I had it done, once it all heals up. One thing I will say is, that I have been told that it isn't truly sorted until one year after the op. Well i'm sorry I can't wait that long to go line dancing again LOL There are lots of excercises to do and providing they are kept up then everything should be ok. The first 6 weeks is the worst as you can't really do too much. Have you had yours x rayed or looked at?

Sounds like you made a good choice Janowl, you really need knees for line dancing, keep up the exercises and get the knitting out, that'll stop you getting bored!

A dear friend of mine had a knee replacement about 6 years ago and it really gave her a new lease of life. You do need to make sure you do all the exercises and so on though...best of luck with it, and you'll be dancing again in no time

This is interesting as I have refused to have mine done. All I see is the negative perspective as Mum has had a terrible time with hers and still dosn't move much, but I kind of thought this was down to her anyway.

god no
they would only tell me not to do so much and i can't stop doing what i do so until i am physically unable to do what i want to do i won't do anything about it.......
does that all make sense?

Went back to work today. 6 weeks to the day after the operation. The kids were little sh..s, but it was good to be back in the land of the living.

Went to physio today and I have no need to go back. She gave me an ecercise to do with a piece of elastic matrial, that needs to be tied to a post or summat, so I can put my leg in and pull back with it from a sitting position. Only trouble is, I on't have a clue what to tie it too???? I need to wait until my son is in so that he can hold it for me.

That's good news then Janowl, looks like your knee is mending well. What about attaching the thing to a door handle, making sure the door is firmly closed of course!

Lots of luck with this janowl. For a few years I used to work the admin for a physiotherapy unit, knee ops were very frequent, and a great success!
And as jellycat says, the exercises are a must!
