What do you think, would I get away with this? Or am I a suspicious character?
Serious question, I don't want to give up my three quarters knitted socks to some security person.
It's Air France.

i was wondering the same thing. i think it's better to put them into your hold luggage, and not take tghem on the plane itself, given the current security climate in the world.

I must wake up before reading this forum - I read this as "knitting aeroplanes" and was most puzzled!!!!! I'd put the knitting in your luggage just to be safe. Or ring the airline to ask. Mind you they'll probably say the same thing!!!

When I was in the travel industry, knitting needles were considered a lethal weapon, together with plastic toy little swords etc and had to be 'confiscated' and locked in a box in the Pilot's cabin.

Now I doubt that you would get that far, and indeed they might not even be allowed in your suitcase. Definitely not in your hand luggage.

But do check just in case - a quick call to your travel agent or a surf on the web will confirm.

On the plus side, it is better to know that you are in safe hands on your flight isn't it.

The last few times I have travelled, since 9-11 they haven't been allowed, of my cross stitch needles.

I wouldn't risk it.

The folk at twistfibrecraft said it wasn't really to do with the airline, it was to do with airport security checks. I was wondering what other people's experiences were.
Maybe I will just take it in my main bag... just looking for something to do on a 17 hour journey, and I thought I could do a sock on the way there and another on the way back!

best ring the airline before hand, as they may have relented on some forms of baggage.

The other thing to watch is if the airline you go out on uses their staff for the return at the other airport , as they may abide by the 2nd companies rules for passengers for the return.

Air France are strange. On the way out this year the buggy had to go to the gate. On the way back it had to be checked in.

(I used to work in the industry)

You definitely cannot take knitting needles onto any flight from UK airports - they are lethal weapons! It is down to the airport, not the airline. I would imagine the same would apply for the return flight.
