Knitting socks.I have found an easy sock pattern on Downsizer forum, and I,m determined to crack knitting in the round, but how do you count the rows? Would you just leave a tail as a marker?I have visions of myself just going round and round and round and losing track!
Confused knitter from Somerset(again).

Either use the tail or place the beginning of a row at the beginning of one of needles (if knitting on 3 or 4 needles) or use a stitch marker (I can send you one if you don't have any, just pm me your address)
Just remember if knitting on several needles; to knit the first stitch of each needle slightly tighter so that you don't get a ladder.
Good luck, I always have a sock on the go

I use a stitch marker too Cookie, do you know how to use one?

Should we all have a go at a sock? I have been really dawdling on the knitting front and still need to get myself motivated so maybe a Potting shed sock would help!

This is the pattern.
I have done this one a few times, and the socks are lovely.

I like that, I've never knitted socks with chunky wool before. I will defo have to have a go but will stick with trying to use up my sock wool first. But thanks for the link! I may try it later!

Kathy, I haven,t got a clue how to use a stitch marker, but Dragonfly is very kindly going to send me one to try with.
Alison, does Sally sell her wool on downsizer?I love her hats!

These are stitch markers on what looks like a complicated pattern. You would only use 1 to mark the beginning of a row for socks.

Some people take their stitch markers very seriously and there are some real fancy ones out there, I just use plain plastic ones!

I make my own stitchmarkers, my MIL who lives in the states; brings / sends me lots of packets of jewellery clasps and then I just do the wire / bead work
I use to use one showing the join and then two when doing the gusset or toe decreasing.
You just slip the marker on the needle at the place of join, which should be in the middle of a needle so that the marker does not fall off (yes, I was a numpty until I worked this bit out ) and then every round just slip the marker, so that the marker is never knitted into the sock iykwim
I have just dyed some sock yarn to knit a secret (christmas) present for Noel. So I would be up for a Potting Shed Sock KAL.

Well done, it's great seeing your own knitted socks, keeping toes warm.

I admire you. I can't knit on four needles to save my life. I use long needles and stick them under my arm so little fiddley things are very daunting.

Well done cookie - it's very satisfying wearing socks you've knitted yourself isn't it?
That pattern of Sally's looks more or less like the one I that use all the time, except mine is 2.5mm needles and 4 ply wool. I'll definitely have a go at chunky ones as well though...loads quicker I'd imagine
