Look at her eyes CP....those are the eyes of a wee toerag....and if you look even closer you will see her sticking her tongue out! Laughing

She's lovely really, they always are, they are all living inside for the next couple of weeks so they get used to humans, can't have her thinking we are all bogeymen!

you keep them inside?
ours has been out since day one, but does have plenty of shelter should mum decide to take her inside....plus they are moors ponies so fairly hardy.
our little one has taken to humans brilliantly....mum was very stand offish for the first few days, then when she went to the stud, sh was running with the stallion, which made the pair of them very wary, but once back on the lorry and home again ...back to normal.

we can do anything with little one even tho she is only 3 weeks old......run our hands all over her, even her tail, lift her hooves, open her mouth, so trusting....and a good bond being built with her.

the yearlings, which we have had now for about 6 weeks are coming on great too.....they were straight off the mountain, never seen humans let alone been near them.....they are now halter trained and we can lift their hooves ready for the farrier next month....all this is IMHO down to gentle handling....sort of my adaption of monty roberts way of join up.

i have had youngsters before and ' broken ' them the 'hard' way........but this way is a lot easier for them...and me. Wink

They are normally kept out Mogs but Della's foal needs 2 weeks rest as one of her hind legs needs to straighten, the vet says it's to do with the way she was lying in the womb. Lucy and her foal have been bought in to keep them company. Lucy has always been standoffish, we don't know what happened to her in her younger days, J got her when she was 13. Because they were kept in such a large field, every time anyone tried to approach Lucy she just walked off down the field, VERY protective! We always use the softly softly approach too, agree, it seems to work much better. I managed to get her sniffing my fingers this morning whilst giving Lucy a good scratch, also managed a stroke under the chin so progress! Foal will be fine by the end of the week as we can tie Lucy up so she doesn't chase the foal away. Della's foal accepts her foal slip and is happy to get feet lifted etc, bless her.

Sounds like you're doing well with the yearlings, any photos?

awwww, i didnt realise she had a prob with her legs.......bless. but they will straighten, yes?

isnt it just a fabulous feling when you know you are making progress......my eyes have welled up before now......the most memorable time being when we first got the foals mum.......sooo wild and wide eyed, nostrils flaring, skipping....lol.....finally decided i was not the enemy and came over to me.......heck i couldnt see for tears........lmao

i do have some piccis of the yearlings i will post them a bit later.....

Just one of the foals hind legs turns slightly out when she walks, the vet says 2 weeks of rest and it'll be fine.

here are the two yearlings i am working on........

this is after they were here two days...this is candy....still very nervous, but tolerating me grooming her a little, so much coat to come out...lol..and a headstall miles to big for her....... Embarassed

and lulubelle......still fluffy, but not as nervous as candy

and on day 5...... groomed without headstall on......yay...and lulu having a peek wondering if it is her turn next.......fofl

i will take more piccis today so will post them soon.

She doesn't have a name yet but has turned out to be the sweetest of things now she has become used to humans. I can scratch her all over now and run hands down her legs. She has very pale colouring in some areas and J thinks she will colour out and turn grey like her Mum.

I can't find the original photo of her Mum before I messed around with this for a Xmas card. She's anglo/arab and floats over the ground when she moves.

not wishing to sound like an old romantic fool but i love horses with grace and seems to me the only thing mising in that pic of mum is the long single spiral horn in the centre of her forehead ,you really captured a spirit in that pic, equine grace at it,s best Very Happy
