my boss !!

my boss told us today that we are only allowed to have a 30 min lunch break, we usually have an hour !   I think she`d be happy if we said we wouldn`t bother to have one at all.
we were all on our way home tonight, and she phoned to ask us to go to clean a house that she`d inspected and found that some other cleaners had hardly cleaned it at all , it took us 2 hours , and we didn`t get home till 6.30.as we are picked up at 8 in the morning it made it a very long day, especially with only a 30 min break.
I cant wait to get another job !
Libby

Thats awful. Isn't there a law about breaks you have to have 15 mins for every so many hours worked??
redwillowrose

I`ll try to find out, but I think she has her own laws !
lloyd

The legal minimum requirement is 30 minutes unpaid.
redwillowrose

It wouldn`t be so bad if she had told everyone else, but she hasn`t , most of them are still having an hour ! today we didn`t get our break until 1.30, and we are cleaning without a break from 9 am,

Constructive dismissal perhaps?................................. Wink

This tells you the minimum entitlement, 20 mns for 6 hrs not taken at the beginning or the end of a shift. Your lunch break entitlement should be in your employee contract and whether it's a paid break or not. What's in your contract for lunch is your legal entitlement and different companies have different allowances.

Hope this helps.  Smile

I would just like to say that my new employers are brilliant !  I get a 15 min break if I work 4 hrs !  and if I work 8 hrs, I get two 15 min breaks, and a half an hour for lunch, all paid. I wish I`d got this job years ago  Very Happy

Gosh doesn't it though?  When I was much younger, I used to work for a bloke I really didn't get on with - it wasn't unusual for me to drive home crying!  I don't think he'd have that effect on me now but even so, the relief when I left there was huge!

Glad things are working out well for you  Smile
