My ChickensSadly I have to try and re-home my four chickens
Bree a Barnvelder
she is a true chicken brain, stupid but exceptionally beautiful, you offer a hand of corn all the rest come running and she charges off in the opposite direction!!!!
Big Bird a Cuckoo Maran (sp?) she is blind in one eye
Babs a MeadowSweet Ranger, bit of a night owl, always last to bed and nosy as well!
finally
Bunty also a Meadowsweet Ranger, 1st for anything, always there and the leader of the pack!
They are 2 and a bit years old, one of them reguarly lays soft shelled eggs so I give Shellstim. But when they do lay the eggs are unbelievably tasty and I shall miss this immensly!
The reason I have to give them up is my back, because of our small garden this involves digging out the bark chippings every 6 weeks and relaying fresh, I can no longer do this due to my bad back!
They live in an Omlet Mark 2 Eglu green in colour and so easy to keep clean. I recommend them highly. Take a look at the Omlet site.
I have recently purchased the plastic roosting bars as well which make life even simpler as they are so easy to keep clean!
I also have the special screw in pegs that secure the run so making it totally secure (these cost £16). I don't have a shade cover as I think they are a bit pricy so go to Wilkinsons and buy a cheap shower curtain that does the trick.
I also have the 25metre chicken netting worth £62 but it does have a few holes due to being chopped by the lawn mower, but I still use it daily and the chickens have not escaped!
All the feeders are included, plus I have a seperate water thingy! I will also give you any feed I have, plus aubiose, mixed corn and RedMite powder stuff although we have not suffered at all this year! The Eglu will be jet washed prior to leaving me, but is second hand and has been used daily by chickens!!!!!!!!!!
If your interested in any or all of the above please PM me with a sensible offer (check Ebay)
Thank you

Aw Libby...it's such a shame you live so far away....I would have loved to have them
|
Kathy

Such a shame you have to give them up Libby they sound like real characters. Hope you get a good home for them.
|
Libby
|
Until you have chickens you don't realsie what characters they can be! I'm really sorry about having to give them up but I'm not doing my back any favours!

Libby, such a shame you have to give them up, I would love to have them but our current little flock will just NOT accept any newcomers despite all our best efforts.
Your eglu should sell really quickly, mine went a year ago within days of advertising it on the omlet forum.

Just need to rehome the chooks first!
I feel really bad about this as I have never ever had to find a home for any of my animals, I have had them for life.
Any suggestions as to what to do with them? Or who to contact?
|
Kathy
|
Have you been onto the allotment forum Libby, I think there's quite a few contacts on there? http://www.chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php

They and their setup / home will go go very fast on Omlet and if anything like ours, for more than you paid!
|
Libby
|
I will check that out Kathy.
Lloyd I thought you had to try and home the chooks first before posting the eglu on omlet??
|
Cabbagepatch
|
I don't think so Libby, I have seen chooks for rehoming there.
|
Libby
|
oh right, thanks!
|
Libby

I put the chickens and eglu onto the omlet forum and it looks like a school maybe taking them. They will confirm tomorrow night. So fingers and toes crossed
I will be very sad when they go cos I have enjoyed their eggs and company immensely. This is the first time in my life I have had to rehome a pet and I'm not very proud of myself!!!

Just to let you know I have found a new home for my chooks and eglu. They went to a school and where collected yesterday.
They are an enviromental green school and have allotments etc 5 caretakers. A very enthusiastic teacher came with her partner in a dormobile to collect them yesterday.
So they have gone but to a good home
|
Kathy
|
A sad day for you Libby but you know they've gone to a good home. Will you be able to go and visit the school?
|
Libby
|
They have said yes but I probably won't. They promised to send me pics once they had settled in!
|
Libby

Received this late yesterday from the school
The hens are doing well! my tutor group loved them & we already have lots of pupils wanting to join the chook club.
Although the hens are still shy, the move doesn't seem to bother them as we have had eggs on the first day (much to the delight of the head teacher who got the first one!).
I will send you a picture of the hens in thier new spot when I remember my camera!
Thanks very much for all your help as well all the little extras you threw in!
happier now!
|
Kathy
|
Oh that's wonderful Libby, peace of mind that they've settled well.

you gotta admit, if you are one who likes to keep your chicken in your home with you and as they aren't particularly up for house training, they seem an ideal solution
i rest my case
|
lloyd
|
Well, we don't let the birds in the house, probably because they decline to be trained. So for some, it seems most excellent!

CP has no idea what you are talking about so clearly hasn't been shown the website......
CP is still holding out for goats as well as more chickens and some quail.
CP would also like to work part time at the orifice.....

you only need one per bird......
rover spends a lot of the day outside and she is paper trained at night....well that isn't strictly true.....she has papers under her perch at night and seems to hit them pretty oftem which is the same thing
but yes it does make perfect sense to me......

ok, order coming up. just let me have your credit card details and i'll split the cost between the two of us...................

ummmmm
i don't have a credit card
would two shirt buttons and a dime do? $9 each wasn't it?
they work out at about £4.50 each i think
can't find them in this country, i have looked
perhaps there is a cottage industry in there for somebody.....
how many you going to order then?
|
Cabbagepatch
|
£4.50 each?
um, I shall consult the bank manager and seek his advice. Wouldn't want to go into overdraft scenario not even for the chooks...
|

Two groats, a shekel and um......a chicken?..(spits on hand in anticipation).......

$9 is about £4.50 each
you need one on and one in the wash, you put pads inside and then throw away the pad, don't have to wash the diaper every day
why do you think mr nanny won't let me have one.......
that's why i am paper training her in the back porch
|
lloyd
|
No deals with me then Nanster?
|

|
not while you spit on your hands love
how many groats did you say you had?
|
lloyd

Just the one, dear!
