my drastic plan for thegarden

I can't believe I'm contemplating this, but it just shows how motherhood can change you.

This was my garden last spring:

It looks almost like that now, but everything is a bit more weedy and less blossomy!

Actually you can see it a lot more clearly in this one, taken when the bed was finished about 4 years ago (maybe 5).

The plan is to get rid of the whole of that central bed, which takes up most of the picture and most of the garden. It contains the pond, which obviously has to go, and it just makes sense to me if we get rid of the whole bed.

We will put back the decking octagon (not the squares - they are compost bins now!) that was down when we moved in as in this pic (I put in all the plants except the climbers).

It'll provide an area for J to play and somewhere for us to sit. Plus it'll mean I have less gardening to do (I can't believe I'm thinking along those lines now!) and should make the garden more attractive to non-gardeners for when we want to move.

Part of me feels quite sad.

How did I miss this??
You have a beautiful garden Aqui! Such a shame it has to go but I do understand about the pond!
I must admit to letting the children 'have' the garden whilst they where growing up. I didn't want to be a mum yelling at them because the ball had gone on the flower bed again!!!
You will soon have it back, they grow up ever so quick!!!!

It's a shame you have to change it so radically.  I hope you will still grow stuff around the edges though, and not have it too minimalist.  Will you still have all the chippings down?
