Nail bitingMy son S has a really bad habit of biting his nails! What can I do to make him stop, is there a really foul tasting remedy I can paint on them to break his habit? Help!

There is a little pot you can get from the chemist with a sponge at the top with a cross cut in it, so the child slips each finger into the cross.
Tastes foul! I can't remember what it is called. There is another one that you brush on like nail varnish, same type of stuff, called "stop and grow".

None of the paint on things I used worked I have to say. I was told by a child pschologist friend not to make an issue out of it (Greenman bit his nails) just ignore it and eventually they grow out of it. Greenman got fed up having sore fingers and just stopped of his own accord.

biting your nails (especially toenails! ) is a disgusting habit. S has been biting them so short you can see raw skin. Thanks Alison, I'll visit the chemist tomorrow and see if they have what you describe.

I can only apologise on his behalf and say that as yet I have never seen him eating his feet.
I shall hit him over the head with an empty wine bottle if I do then go for counselling.
Surely my cooking isn't that bad?

I used to bite my nails and I have to say, stop and grow did absolutely nothing for it - tastes disgusting but if you're determined, you can bite through it!
I'm sorry to say that I didn't stop until I met my beloved, when I was 26...and I can't remember what made me stop now - better things to think about I expect

I totally agree Leonnie....my granddaughter bites her nails...because she sees her mother doing it all the time(yeuch!)...and she wonders why the poor girl get ill all the time. I dread to think what germs congregate on her hands after being in school all day:( The Stop 'n Grow stuff is very good but you have to remind yourself to put it on quite a few times a day. I'm having Jasmine for the 2 weeks Easter break and will hope to have her habit kicked after that time Good luck
