--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's getting towards that time of year when the schools are asking for children to arrive at school with sunblock already applied. I don't like using sunblock, it irritates my skin and I break out in a heat rash because my skin can't breathe. I tend to rather keep out of the sun and wear a big floppy hat. Our children work on the same method and unless they will be in the sun for long periods of time e.g. if we're at the beach for the day, I don't apply sunblock. But at school their lunch break is spent on the playground and most of the time they're in the sun which means they really should have some form of protection. I've found some natural sunblocks which don't use petrochemicals in the ingredients but they all seem to be available from US sites. Does anyone know of a sunblock available in the UK that is made from natural/vegetable ingredients only?

Something I've been looking for too Jesse, I love being out in the sun and dont like to cover up, but neither do I like using "conventional" sunblock.
Look forward to hearing if anyone has info regarding this.

Kathy I've asked the same question at Downsizer and here's the thread. Looks like I might make a batch if no one can suggest one to buy.

I know I prefer not to use chemicals as far as possible but for me sunblock is in the same category as prescription medicines. Some things just are better in a 21st century format, and sunblock is one of them. There was an article about this is a newspaper last week, either the observer or the guardian, forget which one. Having said that, it also said that there is no point in using more than factor 25 and that the cheaper brands are just as good as the expensive ones.

Yes, I heard about that too. You have to be careful about mixing up thr UVB and UVA rays because some don't protect against the harmful ones and are just for the people who want to go brown.

I've ordered some sunscreens, one for the children factor 15 and one for me factor 8.

Thanks aqui, I saw that but worried that as I'm using it on my children if I get the amount wrong then they may get sunburn, also worried that it will go on white rather than transparent, don't really want to be walking about looking like I smeared clown face paint all over me
