I have recently been working on some of my furniture. It is all beech coloured. I have a chest of drawers that i painted years ago, and have rubed it all down and put a paint effect on the front and varnished the sides and top to match other furniture. I got this idea from a dresser that i have. It was pine, and i wanted it to match my conservatory that i had, so i painted the body white and the doors blue. I was convinced that i had ruined it. I rubbed it all down and got some caramel paint. The room is to be painted cream and brown. I went over it with a light coat of paint, and hey presto i have the distressed look. I did the whole dresser in this and changed the knobs for silver ones and it matches the rest of the furniture now. Give me a piece of wood and i'll make something with it. I have made a bookcase and a telephone stand recently and with the off cut i made a little stand to go in the corner to hide some plug sockets that i have in the house as it is newish and they are half way down the wall. It aggravates me when i can see them, so i have to cover them up with something. Even if it's a plant.

It's a shame more folk don't think like you janowl. We go to auctions regularly (and have a house stuffed full of old bits and pieces, unsurprisingly!) It's amazing how even good things will be passed over if they need a little bit of repair. Fortunately, OH is Good With Wood and we have some really beautiful pieces of furniture which he has restored.
ANy chance of a photo of your chest of drawers, dresser etc?

Sounds good Janowl, most of our furniture is old, mostly given to us when we moved to this house. I've not restored any of it, it's "in situ" with all the bumps and scratches! When I say old, it's not antique, 1 set has "Homeworthy Furniture" on it "Furniture you can trust", from the 60s judging by the style!
I've seen some of your furniture BB, lovely pieces as you say.

Well you know. It has to be done. I am sitting in this room at the moment, surrounded by wood and things, so that won't be like that long. I will have to think of something to do with it!!
