Nice lablesnow i have a load of jars that need labeling up and some of it is for the wedding gift bags so i need a way of making up some nice looking lables, also the last batch i printed off ran when they got a bit of condensation on so come on people what is the secret to making up some nice looking lables that will still look nice in a few months time. Also any other suggestions for tarting up the jars would be welcomed.

I cut a circle out of fancy paper or old fabric and fasten it over the top of the jar with an elastic band, like a wee hat. The labels I do in Word with a table, import appropriate pics and adjust the size of the labels depending on the jar size I'm using. I think Mrutty has a template on his website too.
If you need help with any of the above, just shout!

I made my own labels this year.
Simply a semi-transparent background which is a close-up picture of apricots, then scripty text layered on top. You could cover the lids with a circle of fabric secured with ribbon, raffia or string.
If you tell me which jams you want labels for I could make some up and email them as a pdf document. Simply print out onto avery labels. To prevent the ink running you'd need to laser print them though.

The totally over the top way to do it would be to get the stuff you use for painting glass with (the solid bit to make the areas you then normally colour), and just write on the glass with that. I'm sure you can probably get it in something other than black, I'm not sure that would be clear enough on it's own. Depends on contents, I suppose.

For special gifts of jams and the like ,i like to engrave the jars with a dremmel.

Though that would maybe not be a good idea if the jar is to be used again? I'd have thought it may weaken the jar, but only so that upon being heated it might break. Then again, I didn't pay attention in the lectures about that kind of thing

I like the cerne relife idea, thats the glass painting stuff and i must have some in my glass painting box and i love the engraving idea but we are planing 5 or 6 jars of different pickles, jams and spreads in each bag and about 30 bags to thats a lot of either to do.
