Online GamblingI watched Panorama last night, it was about online gambling. Certain countries around the world, including America, have banned online gambling/casinos because it is so easily addictive. "It is currently illegal to run an internet casino gaming operation in Britain but that is about to change. The Gambling Act which was passed in April 2005 and comes in to force on September 1 2007 will allow online casino companies to set up in the UK from September next year."
The whole story can be read here http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/panorama/6165948.stm and if you want to watch last night's programme it can be viewed here http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/panorama/default.stm
What do you think? Is Britain right allowing this to happen, does the responsibility lie with the individual to not become addicted? Personally, I can see how easily it could become addictive, gambling can be an addiction, but gambling online would be so easy.

I have thought long and hard about gambling, as I have a brother who is a book maker, and have had first hand knowledge for 20 years or more.
Initially he worked for a bookies, then spread betting company.
Now he is a professional gambler.
He plays poker 3 - 5 nights a week at the casino, or is abroad playing on the WSOP circuit. In the day time he bets on bet fair, an internet betting site.
When he left school he wanted to work in the stock exchange, and has a good degree in economics and history.
Unfortunately in this day and age it is thought of as ok to work on the futures market, but not to gamble.
I play poker very badly, but I am intending to improve my game in the next couple of years, as I like the similarity it has to bridge, where it isn't just chance but calculation and brain power too.

i am not concerned at all by the affect any gambling has on people same as drug taking drinking or any of the so called self induced problems. they start doing it of thier own free will what i object to is having money wasted on people who do it to themselves and having govt spend much needed funds on pathetic things like new town sculptures the olympics ,and other dum things so that they can say ,, i did that ,, seeing children chewing on the bones of a dead pet dog makes you wonder just how human we really are when it comes to our felllow man
