Made one of these years ago when at school - you do mean the orange studded with cloves with a ribbon to hang it up? Lovely smelling. Now you've got me thinking - I'm going to make some to hang about the place for Christmas.

Made them as a child.
Make a cross over an orange with red ribbon leaving a knot at the top and long strips hanging free.
Then make rows of cloves following the lines of the ribbons untl the orange is stuffed full.
Place in a bag of mixed spices ,
place in airing cupboard and turn regularly.
Take out on Christmas Eve and place near fire, but not too close.
After Christmas place in undies drawer.

does anyone fancy a pomander making week or weekend then??

I did a couple last year, with the cloves in swirls and stripes, to put on the mantlepiece with holly, ivy and candles - very pretty it looked too, even though I say so myself! I didn't bother drying them or anything - just stuck them in the bottom of the airing cupboard after the festivities (actually, I think they're probably still there ).
