We're goinig to have to fill our ground pond in before Jack starts wandering about, but I want to be able to keep some of the plants.
My water lily is one that I know is suitable for a pot.

We kept our pond after the babies arrived - we made a very strong wooden frame covered in chicken wire.
A few years ago I was given a very big cider barrel. Sawn in half it made a lovely water feature, complete with pump, fish and plants. Lasted years until it sprang a leak.
I'm sure a smaller barrel would be fine, especially if you choose the planting carefully. I would still be inclined to use some sort of netting as a cover though. Toddlers can be very determined!!!
Look forward to seeing some piccies. How about a step by step project? Eerrm, when you have a spare moment or two
